Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Alpha "crunch" discussion

What are the design goals they are trying to achieve here?

From the document itself it says fix problems with grapple, polymorph, multiclassing out of straight rogue and fighter, and lesser skills.

It gives some hp to rogues and wizards.

It gives more class abilities to straight rogues and fighters.

It consolidates some skills.

It revises grappling.

However it also

boosts specialist and generalist wizards

boosts higher level fighters and rogues

gives at will cantrips

changes multiclassing

boosts races

changes turning to do damage and healing

changes domains

I'm confused. Paizo is using the posts on their own boards as an open discussion of the design of the Pathfinder RPG. Posting there means participating in the design. Posting here means you don't want to participate in the design. Why post if you don't want your opinion heard by someone who can use that opinion to better the product?

I like Paizo, i really do. But the last time I posted in their forums I was lambasted because I was a friend of 4e. I don't want to post there right now.

I would rather discuss this document here, where I am comfortable. I am not posting here in an effort to sway opinion or to give feedback.

I just want clarifications in case I want to use it in my game right now, before I switch to 4e.

Well, the Paizo design staff _does_ read EN World, of course.

If you are looking for a direct line to the design staff, the Open Playtest boards on Paizo.com are a great place to go.

If you're interested in discussing elements of the d20 system with other fans of that system, then EN World seems an appropriate venue.

RE: Posting here: Seriously? No discussing D20 mechanics on ENWorld? The Paizo people do know about these boards. I wouldn't sweat it. (Edit: and Mr. Mona beat me to it).

RE: The alpha rules. Interesting. Good ideas. But it doesn't seem to adress the big problems of 3E: many spell at high levels, and the difficulty of DMing at high levels.

Thanks for the reply Erik. I have been a Paizo supporter for a long time, been a Dungeon/Dragon/Pathfinder/Gamemastery/Pathfinder Chronicles subscriber since the beginning. I wish you luck in this venture, but I think after June, I may only buy the Necro products from Paizo, since they will be 4e.[/off topic]

That said, I might take advantage of these rules for now, and I guess I will need to lurk at the Paizo forums to read feedback from the Paizo staff about rules clarifications. I can see how it doesn't make sense to post FAQ/errata information on two different boards.

I'm not interested in getting into debates on the Paizo boards over which way Paizo goes with this rule or that for version X.x of their developing ruleset, though I wish them well with it nonetheless. I am interested in discussing the OGC as it is released. No offence to anyone who wishes to approach this in some other way in some other place.

There are also people who do not feel comfortable posting on the Paizo forums for whatever reasons they might have.

Could people please stop highjacking this thread with pleas to move discussion from the EN World boards over to the Paizo's boards (regardless of their fine intentions)?

I might be better able to polish my argument with folks I know before I go over to Paizo's boards to post it.
