Be sure to read all of that, like that it's a one-shot deal, and only 4 miniatures. Not really a replacement for DDM, but could be cool. A bit rich for my tastes though.

Oh I know I'm reading into it a bit.

4 pack for 13.00 is a lot in many ways and there is nothing about further packs or creatures.

Due to licenceing I'm sure creature packs would be very limited anyway but it still is an effort for my plastic crack habit. And the figures look very well done (I know... They all do as promo pieces)

$13 for 4 miniatures pretty much dooms this to failure. That is an outrageous price to ask for this.

While I accept that the price -- to you -- makes it too expensive for your tastes, the price point does NOT "doom" the offering, generally.

I expect the sale of those minis to be rather brisk, actually. We'll see other sets, too.

The minis look nice. The thing is, the WotC Heroes line did not do well at all. Four humanoid minis doesn't seem to entice people all that much. If this is supposed to be a way to test the waters, I don't think the results will be very good.

I'd love to see a new line of minis though.

I'm actually thinking about buying these. They look nice, and I think the Pathfinder iconic heroes are pretty cool.

That said, I have a hard time justifying RPG-related purchases to myself. I used to subscribe to the Pathfinder adventure paths, and I canceled that when I realized that I might never actually use that material for a game.

I like Paizo. They do top-notch work, but ... I'm not buying RPG materials just to collect them.

What is the scale in comparison to my existing DDM miniatures? I bought specific Warcraft minis because they worked for large monsters, but I never bought any humanoid singles.

If this were 1995, I'd agree with you. These days, that's the price of lunch for two.

Sorry - I forgot paizo can do no wrong.

Didn't the ever increasing price of DDM doom the line as well? Oh but that's different. Right. Carry on!

Do you have something to say? This just doesn't seem a relevant point to the argument, apart from being rude, speculative, and frankly, inaccurate.

I don't see any evidence the price of DDM doomed the line. At least, it's hard to separate it out from the erratic product quality, the 3e/4e monster manual split, the irrelevance of collectability with the death of support for the skirmish game, "interesting" choices for scrulpts, problems with quality control and production cost in China, overly large sets, and an overly ambitious production schedule.

I don't play Pathfinder. I bought the minis. I like minis. I'm willing to pay a few bucks a pop for them. There aren't a lot of other options out there for new pre-painted plastic minis and I hope they make more. I'll certainly buy them, and I'll be a little bit giddy, frankly, if they branch out into monsters.

Looking at the Paizo website, which lists their top selling items, it seems like pre-sales of the mini set is doing very, very well. Last I checked it was their #1 selling product on the site.

Yeah - I pre-ordered. They look like they will be pretty nice and if nothing else I have better representation for some of the iconics in a PFS game. In other games I have some extra minis to use as needed.

Doomed them to failure? Not sure price was it. Maybe.

In either case - this is a one off release at this point in time to go in conjunction with the Beginner Box release. The price of this non-random set does not indicate what pricing might be on a regular mini offering from Paizo (should they even decide to do such a thing).

The minis look plastic. Metal sculpts currently hold detail far better. If that's the paint-job they all get, it's not actually bad - but it's not good either. At that price point I'd want either better sculpts, a better paint-job, or things that I couldn't duplicate in other ranges. YMMV.

Perhaps in the future this will be an acceptable substitute for DDM, but not yet, not hardly.

I would like to see a good mini line again, though,.

No, what doomed the line was a market that was glutted with too much product in 2005/06 that was never cleared from retail and wholesale inventories. Then the reference art was changed on the move to 4E, and the market was further split.

If you are not interested in the Pathfinder Pre-Painted Mini line, I assume you will not buy them. Last I checked though, there were a lot of Pathfinder players who ARE interested.

The Pathfinder Iconics are intended to be miniatures aimed at Pathfinder fans and those who may purchase the Beginner Box. These products aren't aimed at D&D players.

The iconics are familiar to a lot of players of Pathfinder as they appear time and time again across 100+ print products and nearly as many electronic products. These aren't intended to be just another fighter mini. If that's all they were, you might have a point.

Paizo spent a lot of money over the past five years developing the character art and tying their brand to them in every AP, Companion, Chronicle, and PFS scenario as well as the stand-alone modules and Core Rulebooks. Accordingly, there is a significant amount of interest among Pathfinder fans for minis which match that reference art.

For example, every PFS GM will want these minis because they match the reference art of the default pre-gen characters in PFS play.

You are either interested in the Iconic Minis product because of the reference art -- or you aren't. Clearly, you aren't interested. But I think your scorn emerges because you are treating them as "generic minis" without understanding the underlying reason for the strong appeal of the minis to Pathfinder fans.
