Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder First Print Run Sold Out

OK, folks. Just because ENW is back at full power doesn't mean you need to break out the bats and blades. Cool the rhetoric, please.

Personally, I love this news. I'm glad I subscribed so I know I'll have a copy when I get home from GenCon. Now, I have to decide if I still want to buy a 2nd copy while I'm there (for the missus, of course), or let someone else have a chance at a copy. The angel and devil on my shoulders will fight it out Thursday mornng...

I suspect you won't though,

You are correct, sir. Not because such examples don't exist, but because I don't reward unreasonable demands, no matter how loud or persistent.

I won't provide my birth certificate, either.

Congratulations. You have Won Teh Interwebs. You can pick up your trophy on the way out.

At first you wanted an answer, now you want a "good" answer? What if no answer meets your arbitrary definition of "good"?

I phrased it up front as a "good reason". Anyone can say space aliens need the number to enter into their magic computer to eat our brains. I'm looking for a normal reasonableness standard.

And I am not going to play that "what's reasonable" game. Our society depends on that term "reasonable" to function for thousands of things, and it functions just fine without a debate over what is reasonable. It's the thing you know when you see it.

Let it go. We both know that, while the edge between unreasonable and reasonable might be hazy, 99% of everything falls into a pretty clear choice between the two, firmly in one camp or the other. So, lets leave it at that unless something actually comes up on that edge, shall we?

I'd guess that it's because you posted it in what is supposed to be a congratulatory thread, and in a tone easily interpreted as hostile. If it bothers you so much, fork the thread and let the Paizo/Pathfinder fans be happy about the good news in this one.

Why is it being interpreted as hostile? Why is my saying I am happy about the news, and for Paizo, and giving reasons for that, not enough?

They announced they sold out of the print run. In addition to saying congratulations, I am asking what that print run was. How is that off topic, and hostile?

Wow! Just, Wow! Congrats to Paizo!

(Sorry some folks round these parts are intent on threadcrapping all over your good news. Hopefully, since this is obviously being done purposefully and with malice aforethought, the instigators will be banned from the boards for a few days, at least.)

You really think it is unreasonable for me to ask you to offer a hypothetical example where releasing such information could harm Paizo or help a competitor, after you made the claim it would?

Nobody is asking for sales figures, just print run.

They gain customer service. Some of their fans would like to know the number. That's it. Without a harm, pleasing their fans seems like a good thing, doesn't it?
I'm as yet unconvinced there's no harm. And pleasing a miniscule percentage of fans while risking a negligible harm is far from an easy calculation, IMO.

...and that's where I'll edit my post and cut this off on my end. Yeah, no need to continue to argue about this in what I'd hope would be a positive thread.

Yes, for you. I know you run a successful business and could no doubt extrapolate useful information from print run sizes; I'm in no way criticizing your business acumen, though am unconvinced your area of business has strong similarities to RPG publishing.

The average RPG messageboard poster seems to both (1) lack business experience, and (2) still remain pretty confident they know a ton about business, despite all this.

I don't see how it wouldn't.

"WOO! 4e sold FIVE TIMES as much as Pathfinder!" or "HAH! Pathfinder lacks the kind of connections WotC has, but still sold a huge percentage of what WotC has sold. The PF core book outsold Martial Power!"

It's more fuel on the fire, and I'd rather see it cool down to embers.

OK. Well, I can see merit in a lot of what you wrote. Fair enough. Thanks.

You edit out the one post that convinces me you're right?

The same can be said about any commentator/pundit who does a lot of armchair quarterbacking, such as what is seen on CNN and other tv news channels.
