Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Just Keeps Looking Better

I'm super-psyched about the release of Warriors & Warlocks, but I'm just not on the Pathfinder bandwagon. Pathfinder looks like the opportunity to purchase 3.5 again, which, being quite happy with the original set I already own, I see no reason to do.

In a nutshell that is why I am not interested in Pathfinder. They did NOT simplify D&D, but instead made their own version of it to continue sales. I would have preferred to se Paizo keep with 4E, or make their own game system, but instead they have gone Pathfinder.

I know it is hard working around the WOTC behemoth, but I don't think diving headlong into a small gaming niche is the best idea.

Vic Wertz on Paizo just announced the following:
We at Paizo Publishing understand how important PDFs have become to most roleplaying gamers. We know that PDFs allow you to easily carry around a large library of books on your laptop, PDA, or cell phone. We know that PDFs are great for searching for that piece of obscure information. We know that PDFs are a great way to keep out-of-print products available. And we know that PDFs provide a great way to check out new products.

At paizo.com, most of the roleplaying books we publish are available in both print and PDF editions. We take pride in the high quality of our PDFs and think that they are some of the best in the industry. And we would love to show you how cool they are by allowing you to buy our Pathfinder PDFs for 35% off the regular retail price through the end of April. This offer includes Pathfinder Adventure Path PDFs, Pathfinder Modules PDFs, Pathfinder Chronicles PDFs, Pathfinder Companion PDFs, and Pathfinder Society Scenario PDFs.

Just add the Pathfinder PDFs you would like to buy into your cart, and when you are checking out, type the promotional code "PDFLove" in the appropriate box. The 35% discount will be applied to your Pathfinder PDFs at that point. You can use this code as many times as you like until the end of April, and feel free to share this code with your friends.

Ditto.

Love 4e but think WoTC is going off the deep end of stupidity lately.

Provided they fixed some of my beefs and streamlined some of the clunky subsystems, I'll buy it. I might even run it if its good enough.

It is certainly cool that you think this. But Paizo has made it 100% clear on multiple occasions that they think staying with the 3E base system is the better choice for them both as a business and for creating the kind of game they want.

Obviously some will disagree. But that cuts both ways.

And just how small a niche is it?
Compared to the market for game that happens to have the "current official version of the game called Dungeons and Dragons" moniker on it, yeah it is small.
Compared to market for 3PP products for the current version of D&D, it looks like it may be rather huge.

I, for one, am thrilled.

Pathfind is not looking better to me. Based upon the alpha and beta, I have little interest in Pathfinder much like I have little interest in 4e.

For my fantasy needs, I'll be sticking with
a) 3e modified by Unearthed Arcana and several third party products while using limited WOTC supplements outside of UA, MM2, Fiend Folio, Fiendish Codex I, Heroes of Horror, Lords of Madness, and Stormwrack;
b) True20; and
c) Mutants and Masterminds once I get Warriors and Warlocks.

I'm cookin' with Pathfinder

...am I right?

Last night, I went to the Paizo website to grab a few PDFs before they all got pulled down. Alas, their poor server was too overloaded to oblige, and I missed out.

I didn't want to leave empty-handed, though, so I grabbed the free Pathfinder Beta Playtest while I was there.

I hadn't seen Pathfinder since the first Alpha release...and man, it has really come a long way since that first show-and-tell piece. The mechanics are interesting. The artwork is awesome. The campaign setting is intriguing.

I've been in a bit of a gaming drought for a while now. My group finished up our 3.5E campaign a few months ago, and our sandbox BECM game never really took root. We tried a couple of 4E games, but nobody really cares for it. I was going to kick off another 3.5E game at the end of this semester, and call it "good enough." But now?

Now, I can't stop thinking about a Pathfinder homebrew.

I can't wait until the final version comes out, but I'm not holding my breath for a more streamlined, simplified, easier, whatever system. I think what we're seeing in Beta is what it is other than tweeks here and there for the final. Not that I'm complaining though, because I really like it. :D

Anyways, I'm running a Kingdoms of Kalamar campaign that uses Pathfinder. When I finish this one up, we'll switch to the Chronicles campaign setting and probably get on the Adventure Path series when they start using their own rules.
