Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder outselling D&D

I remember in an interview with Eric Mona, he talked about getting paid from the distributors some nine MONTHS after shipping. Think of the costs there in terms of interest alone. Right there, that's about 4% on your money.

To be clear, that was for the notoriously corrupt, mob-run magazine business. Book publishing is not quite so screwed up, and the payments are much, much faster to the point where it really isn't a problem at all.

I'd be worried about receiving fish-heads in my mailbox after making these comments.

By the way, Hasbro (the parent company of Wizards of the Coast) will be reporting on Monday, so we can get (maybe) a small glimpse at how well Hasbro thinks Wizards of the Coast maybe doing. And they, not Wizards, will determine whether what Wizards is doing is a success or not. I would think after all this time, it's to the point of fish or cut bait with Wizards. Perhaps I am being so dramatic. Perhaps.

From what I understand, Magic and Duel Masters do fantastic for WotC lately, better than they have in a long time. So even if D&D is under preforming (I don't know that it is doing worse than what would be acceptable) its important to remember that WotC isn't only D&D.

Unfortunately, WotC is too small to have a reportable impact.

Hasbro's results show a 12% decline in the Games and Puzzles category compared to the same quarter last year. This follows a similar decline for their first quarter.

Interestingly, they started a Center of Excellence for games in Rhode Island and are moving personnel from Massachusetts. The board game group in Redmond may find their positions shifting across country over the next year or so.

I agree with you. To add: if 4.0 had been 3.75 instead (tweeked 3.5 ala Pathfinder) I would have stayed a serious WotC customer. Now, all I ever buy of theirs is the occasional dungeon tiles (at big box book stores) or minis on the secondary market.

Also, if WotC had a 3.5 ddi section (in addition to their 4.0 ddi) I'd be a paying customer. That said, I'm sure they didn't want to invest $$$ on an edition they wanted to bury.
I absolutely agree!!
