That post was completely out of line and has been reported. So what if Paizo took the d20 SRD and based an RPG on them? Anyone can do it, and it's legal, not underhanded. Underhanded is doing things like pulling pdf's of your products with little notice and killing an awesome character builder that people can actually own to force them to use an inferior web based program. In fact ,many other companies have based games on the same rules. Mutants and Masterminds, True 20, etc. all are based on it. Paizo developed a strong following by writing quality adventures in Dungeon and their Pathfinder adventure paths. They worked hard to develop that reputation and used it to make the 3.5 rules their own in a perfectly legal manner in a short period of time. They had to make a quick decision about what product lines they would support, and it seems they made the right one. More power to them.

This isn't a surprise to me. Afterall, WotC is a gaming company, and Paizo is a marketing firm.

I'll be impressed when Paizo actually writes a game instead of cashing in on someone else's work and duping a gullible demographic into buying a game that they already owned out of pure spite. By the way, I'm aware that Pathfinder's SRD is online for free, which really only shows how dumb and easily manipulated the people who had bought the core books actually are. I wonder if they burn half of their paychecks for the hell of it.

I really don't like 4E at all...I find the combat rules that everyone touts to be an excruciating, ponderous experience. But at least they TRIED to do something different, whereas Pathfinder is just 3.blech with a few minor modifications and some new artwork. Really they're a bunch of disingenuous twats who happen to be savvy in realizing that their fanbase are a bunch of basement cases with personality disorders and exactly how to stroke their egos (fake playtests, :):):):):):):):) online pandering, and stealth edition warmongering like the CEO's post above) in order to maximize doe-eyed, puppy dog-esque devotion among the high functioning autistics that can actually stand to PLAY the game.

On the subject of Paizo fans, and this is a tangent...really these were culled from the absolute worst that 3rd edition had to offer. I mean, they really are :):):):):):):)s. And it's not that they are :):):):):):):)s because they happen to play Pathfinder, it's that Pathfinder/3.x is the kind of game that could only be truly enjoyed by :):):):):):):)s. Given their obvious personality flaws, the fact that they were so easily hornswoggle dout of their money by Paizo, and the fact that the majority of their gaming experience is composed of pawing at sourcebooks with sweaty hands while locked up in a basement all alone, I kind of regard Paizo players in the same way that I regard registered sex offenders that are forced to announce themselves at my door by the courts.

So Paizo managed to outsell WotC by being a bunch of underhanded weasels and cashing in on the work of others. Well congrats to them. Of course, the really funny part is that if they ever try to come out with a new edition, half of their fanbase will just jump ship when one of THEIR 3rd Party developers puts out a clone based on the PF SRD. That's assuming that Lisa Stevens doesn't just accept the first buy out offer she gets and run off with the money, leaving Pathfinder's gullible-ass fans in the dust, which is the likelier scenario.

In short, I would be impressed if it were Green Ronin, or Fantasy Flight Games, or Margaret Weiss Productions, or Evil Hat Productions, or any company that actually writes GAMES that managed to beat out WotC. Instead, it was an unscrupulous marketing firm selling someone else's effort to a bunch of aspies who make purchasing decisions with their emotions instead of their brains. The people at Paizo really are just conniving scum bags and I hope any success they enjoy in this hobby is fleeting.

Somebody, please ban this guy.

Banning is probably not necessary since clearly it is just a troll with a low intelligence score.

Posts like this (Except for the aspergers comment) should not even be noted because obviously this individual has nothing intelligent to add to a discussion.

Clearly this is a hateful individual with a myopic view and a bone to pick. Ignore it like a turd floating in the loo that isn't yours.

Dannager? Is that you? Finally snapped huh?

(I KEED! I KEED!)

(Looks at Shazbot's post)

Speaking of lack of originality... :) Shazbot, I can't help but feel I've read that exact same railing against PF too many times to count across forums all over the net.

Let's talk one moment about what Paizo HAS done with the 3.5 rules. They've managed to avoid most of the pitfalls of unbalanced rules that plagued 3.5, they've managed to add new class abilities, feats, and features that make characters more interesting without overpowering them, and they've combined this with fascinating, multi-layered plotlines and characters in their modules that WotC just aren't doing nearly as well, in my opinion. They know what they do, and they do it well, without splitting their audience with internally competing products. That's a win, in my book.

This comes from someone who plays Pathfinder and 4E, and finds strengths in both games. I find Pathfinder needs simplification on the GM side of things, and 4E needs more tweaking and options available on the PC side of things.
