Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Players: What would you be playing/buying if PF didn't exist.

3.5E, probably a mix of straight 3.5E and the some of the Trailblazer modifications and Book of Experimental Might I & II modifications.

Definitely not 4E as one of the guys got copies of the books in PDF form and passed them around, and none of us really liked the system so we all ditched the PDFs.

I would have looked into other "fantasy" systems, like C&C or Savage Worlds or Eclipse(?) , and maybe try one of those.

The only thing that I would be buying is DnD 3.5E modules. Freeport stuff (I have most of them), Dungeon Classics, etc.

but who around here would have bought more 4e stuff if PF didn't exist? What would you be buying and playing if PF didn't exist?

I would have simply stuck with 3E, or moved over to Savage Worlds. I played 4E for several weeks to give it a chance, but I don't think anything would make me like that system. I'd rather not game than play it, it was that bad.

I guess i'd be miserable playing 3.5. Particularly as a player I felt I was finished with 3.5, as a GM it wasn't as bad.

Yes, Pathfinder inherited many of 3.5's faults, but at least it offers something new as a player. I got really tired of 3.5 fighters in particular - the Pathfinder fighter is more different than it appears at first.

Pathfinider and 3.5 both take too much prep time for my liking, tough.

I'd be playing either 3.5 or Iron Kingdoms. I tried 4E and disliked it, so there's no way that I'd find that as an alternative to PF.

All I get from that is a profile on their total revenues, which says nothing about their market share. Is there an actual article I'm not seeing?

There is other information available. For example Ryan Dancey has said D&D is worth around 25-30 million dollars per year. ICV2 made it official that Pathfinder outsold 4th ed in early 2011 and Lisa Stevens has claimed that with their own internal data gathering they outsold 4E in late 2010.

We know Paizos revenue in 2009 and 20012 and the annual growth rate so going back to 2011 we can guesstimate Paizo outsold 4E on around 8 million in turnover. If Danceyys figures are correct something like 66-75% of the 2006sales figures were lost in the transition to 4E once the new and shiny bubble popped and Paizo become the largest fragment left with 33-40% of the old D&D revenue.
