Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Players: What would you be playing/buying if PF didn't exist.

This is a question that spins off another thread about how much Pathfinder sales effects D&D sales.

My guess is that there are some missed sales from new people that see PF is popular and hear bad things about 4e from the PF and OSR crowds, but who around here would have bought more 4e stuff if PF didn't exist? What would you be buying and playing if PF didn't exist?

Hard to say. Assuming the game market were exactly the same, except Pathfinder wasn't there... probably Iron Heroes or my homebrewed system.

For the groups around my neck of the woods - i'd guess 3.5 D&D , given that its the runner up. Id rather it be Savage Worlds, but (pun intended) you play with the hand you're dealt.

Yes, that is the underlying assumption of my question.

For me, my purchase decisions for different games are independent of each other so buying one game doesn't usually effect my purchase decisions for other games. I just buy what I want.

I'd probably be playing primarily 4E. I turned my current group's primary DM (and PF cheerleader) on to Pathfinder when we met through D&D Encounters. He had actually never heard of Pathfinder, but readily embraced it once I showed it to him. I actually like both systems a lot, and think 4E might have lived longer had Pathfinder not been so successful.

I'd probably still be buying and dabbling in lots of the same things that I do at present: The One Ring; Shadowrun; Star Wars: Edge of Empire; Numenera; 13th Age; Dungeonworld...

The One Ring, Shadowrun, FATE, Savage Worlds and 3.5. I might have given 4e a try but I don't think I would have stuck with it.

If I was in the D&D mood, I'd be using 3.x. I'd also be playing more of other games like Eclipse Phase, Shadowrun, and WoD.

Assuming retroclones either did not exist I would stick with a house ruled 3.5 or go back to house ruled 2nd ed with ascending saves, ACs etc. Also play Star Wars Saga/D6.
