The BAB change for flurrying is probably one of the best changes they could do.
They get full BAB when flurrying, and for their CMB. I'm curious why the designers didn't just give give it full BAB in general, rather than these somewhat complicated exceptions. The only difference is that the pathfinder monk is now at its weakest when acting, well, most like a monk: when maneuvering around the battlefield with his tremendous speed. The monk, more than any other class in the game, now has a huge incentive to just stand still and never move.

That aside, this version looks much improved from the 3.5 monk. He's actually a viable melee combatant now!

I like the changes. In flavor and useful.

I do agree with Atlatl that I hate how flurry is a full round action. I've seen two house rules that deal with that. 1) Give the Monk the skirmish ability (ie, move 10' and get +1d6 damage), or 2) change flurry to a standard action. I'm doing #2 in my current game and I think it works well, but it will have to be taken away with the final PFRPG, it seems. A better to-hit plus a standard action would mean the monk would flurry all of the time.

hmmm...

And he, more than any other class, has the tools to achieve that condition.

The statement presumes that the conditions for flurry are always right there in the monk's face waiting to get blitzed.

Being good when stading in one spot surrounded by a bunch of attackers (like in a Jackie Chan movie) is not in conflict with being good at outmaneuvering enemies for both offensice and defensive advantage (like in a Jackie Chan movie).

I find these things to be very much in synergy. I just hope the new perks let me see it in practice more frequently.

Why does the monk have so low Str? 14...no + Str item?

But okay they flurry with +8 (monk level) +2 Str -1 flurry penalty = +9 I see.

So they kept the Flurry penalty.
Shouldn't the Monk use weapon finesse if he has better Dex than Str?

Actually it's

+8 Level
+2 Strength
+1 Weapon Focus
-2 TWF

It seems that Flurry only simulates TWF and that you can't use Imp. TWF to pump up flurry (although I wouldn't be surprised if that is a higher level ability). Further it sounds like monk got short sword added to his list of special monk weapons which is pretty decent flavor.

I suspect that many monks will aim for getting Vital Strike and I wonder if people can design a fighter/monk build that enables them to get the pre-requisites for Imp Vital Strike (which could be very deadly in combination with Flurry of Blows).

They don't get full BAB for FoB, get their monk level. I wonder what the new multiclass restrictions may be for the Monk? If I were to make a Monk10/Wiz10, my BAB for FoB would only be +10/+5...
