From what I gathered from the Open Design seminar at Gencon that was the choice of the patrons (specifically 4 hold outs) and Wolfgang Baur being the stand up fellow that he is, honored their request. As one of our staffers put it: Patronage has its privileges.

Yes, and we are working to change that. I expect to have the previews of the project out on Sept the 22nd if not before. In the interim we have previews of our other products on the site. Its a large hurdle for us to overcome, but we enjoy the challenge.

The ransom model has worked well for several years for new Delta Green adventures. Of course, this assumes that the writer has a reputation she can trade on.

Arc Dream and Pagan have begun using the process Monte seems to be describing, asking for subscriptions up front and using the money to fund a small print run. They have succeeded well enough to allow the companies to follow up later with a softcover edition after the hardcovers.
