I believe that the only requirement for Epic feats is that one be Epic- defined as level 21+.

If that's true then every character that crosses the epic threshold should immediately become a multiclass fighter, I mean you pick up two epic feats in the first two levels. Which sounds a tad bit broken to me.

I'm looking on the rules for epic spellcasting, the mitigating factors and Backlash (1d6 for -1 to the DC to develop) in particular. The factor is useful for spells with instant duration, but for spells that last longer it is deadly. According to the rules it inflicts itself on the caster each round the spell is in effect. That is all good and well in some cases, since one can use ritual casting or increase the casting time to pay for a useful spell, but in a dangerous environment one needs to cast ones spells as standard actions. Summonings, divinations, illusions and such.
Without Backlash as an effective mitigator in those cases the spells will either be horribly expensive or draining, and will not be used. It is a not uncommon house-rule to let Backlash be a one-time cost... What do you say, Paxus?

Actually, one thing I'm concerned about is whether or not it's possible to increase my caster level (and maybe eventually get ninth-level spells). The way it's worded strikes me as odd; "number of spells per day does not increase after 20th level" - does that refer to total level or just the spellcasting class level?

A class doesn't have continued spell progression after 20th level in that class. Once your effective wizard level is 20, and you have all the spell slots of a 20th level wizard, then and only then does progression cease. For backlash, I'll tentatively allow it to be one-time, but as always, I'll have to okay any spell you want to research. Class bonus feats are only epic once you are epic levels in that class.

Yep. The sword and armor are magical. The rest is just expensive.

I take nothing happened to Brystasia when she entered the room and such? (Assume she touched a few things that detected as non-magical.)

So would the even/odd caster progression continue with the Spellsword class until 20th level is reached as a caster?
The epic progression for PrC is rather hit and miss. Most of the time their not done official and one most make it unofficial. (That means you.) I'll poke my head around wizards' website but I imagine I imagine I will find nothing.

If that were the case I would say yes it does continue at the every other level.

Found it on wizard's web site, and it does continue on the odd progression. I'll get you the rest of the details soon. :)

Epic Spellsword

Epic Spellsword

The epic spellsword weaves magic and melee together with unparalleled skill.

Since you mix combat with your spellcasting, your epic feat selection should mirror that combination. Keep
up with the fighters with Epic Prowess and Epic Toughness, but make sure that the other spellcasters aren't
kicking sand in your face by beefing up your spells with Epic Spell Focus, Improved Spell Capacity, or Intensify
Spell. Try to resist the temptation to spread your ability increases too widely-you're probably better off focusing on Strength and either intelligence or Charisma, depending on what controls your spellcasting.

other options: If you have the time and ability, consider learning Epic Spellcasting and coming up with some unique spells that fit your tactics. If you're a finesse-fighter, focus on improving your Dexterity over
your Strength-if you can't hit the target, your spell channeling isn't much good.

Hit Die: d8.

Skill Points at Each Additional Level: 2 + Int modifier.

Spells per Day/Spells Known: The epic spellsword's caster level increases by 1 per even numbered level gained above 10th. The epic spellsword continues to gain new spells per day (and spells known, if applicable) at each new even-numbered level, up to the maximum spells per day and spells known of the arcane spellcasting class to which the spellsword belonged before adding the prestige class.

Channel Spell (3u): The epic spellsword's ability to channel continues to improve after loth level. At
15th level, the maximum allowable spell level that may be channeled by the epic spellsword is 4th. This maxi-
mum level increases by 1 for every 5 additional levels gained (Sth-level spell at 20th, 6th-level spell at 25th,
and so on).

Ignore Spell Failure (Ex): The reduction of arcane spell failure chance increases by 5% for every
two levels above 9th (to 35% at 11th, 40% at 13th, and so on). For instance, at 17th level the epic spellsword
could wear full plate armor and a large shield and suffer no chance of arcane spell failure.

Bonus Feats: The epic spellsword gains a bonus feat (selected from the list of epic spellsword feats)
every four levels after 8th.

Epic Speltsword Bonus Feat List: Automatic Quicken Spell, Automatic Silent Spell, Automatic Still Spell,
Enhance Spell, Epic Prowess, Epic Spell Focus, Epic Spell Penetration, Epic Toughness, Epic Weapon
Focus, Ignore Material Components, Improved Combat Casting, Improved Heighten Spell, Improved Metamagic, Improved Spell Capacity, Intensify Spell, Multispell, Permanent Emanation, Spell Knowledge, Spell Opportunity, Spell Stowaway, Spontaneous Spell, Tenacious Magic.

That's for the 3.0 version of the Spellsword, sadly. If I remember correctly it was in Tome and Blood, while the 3.5 version is in the Complete Warrior. Quite different, too, in that the Channel Spell was limited by level before, but now any spell can be channeled, while at 10th level, the Spellsword can channel two spells at the same time. Hrrrm...
