I'm the only one in my group who paints minis, and I do a pretty nice job of it I must say. So did I charge my buddies to paint thier figs so we could get them in play? Of course not. I painted them all for free, I got the have the fun of painting them and seeign them on the field of battle looking nice. What more does one need?

I too have painted figures for free for a lot of my players, but I have a whole lot of my own that still need paint and I only have so much time, so while I don't mid painting a couple, If somebody wants me to paint a bunch I've gotta charge them. after all I have to use not only my time but paints and brushes as well and while I may have some time I don't currently have the cash to replace my paints (many of wich are old) and brushes. also I paint better then anybody else that I know (though I have seen examples of peoples work that is better then I can do). likewise none of my players have any friends who paint better then I do. so I told them that I would charge $15-$20 per figure for a "humansize" figure depending on the ammount of detail that they are looking for. this is comporable to what I have seen on line for folks who paint in the same quality range as I do and this way they don't have to cover shipping costs and usually they are ready by the next time we game.

This is why none of my mini's are painted.

if I'm not a painter, don't have the time.money or desire

As the last post shows -if you use mini's (like a lot of us) then NOT painting them is also an option.

At least you are using mini's. that's the most important visual step. painting them for rhose of us who paint is just our "Art within coming out and showing off for our own vanity. we do it not just because we love it but also because we can;)

I wonder will this post now, has some-one banned my ISP and not told me about it? Was it something I said?

The only time I have paid to roleplay is when I go to Cons.

As for other types of paying, well I usually buy extra food then I can eat, since I like sharing. When we play at my place, since I have a large living room, I like keeping the rest of the players and GM in coffee and tea.

Almost no one was able to post more than a sentence for about 4 days. Don't be so paranoid! :)

I don't know, strange board and all. And you seem to awfully strict about what one is able to post and not.

On another RPG board we are talking about what is your favoruite food to eat off a person, mine's blue icing ;)

want us buying a lot of extra books for us to get possible campaign enlightening ideas from, so he buys them himself. And, he also buys a lot of terrain – including a good portion of the Dwarven Forge stuff, and the Mage Knight stuff as well. Plus, he gets miniatures, and sometimes has them professionally painted. So, we contribute towards his massive amounts of purchases. I would guess he has just about every non-adventure module d20 product on the market, and had a similar collection of 2E stuff.

And, it doesn’t stop us from buying books for our own collection, as I have quite a few of the WotC hardcover books, and all of the Kenzer-Kalamar related non-module product. But, I think we’re generally pretty honest about not looking into stuff. Plus, some of the guys in the group don’t make a lot of money, and now don’t feel like they have to keep up with the guys that have better paying jobs.

oops, accidentally deleted the first line of mine...

Actually, we’ve been paying to play for a while now. The DM in our group does not want us buying a lot of extra books for us to get possible campaign enlightening ideas from, so he buys them himself.
