OK. I guess I've been had. I'm willing to accept that. But I now have a rather long list of those of you who are not to be trusted. Please send $10 American to an address I will post later to be removed from this list.

Having fun at the expense of mental defectives like myself- you should be ashamed!:)

I hope you have a similar list of those to be trusted, and who should therefore get a cut. :)

Of course you'll get a cut, after paying a one-time "trustworthy fund" processing fee of only 25 dollars, the checks will start rolling in.:D

Of course it's all reimbursable, just contact my office in the Cayman Islands.

I don't care if Gary Gygax & Rob Kuntz are running a game there is NO way I would EVER pay to play in someones game. As a DM I find the idea completely foreign to what I play the game for, that is having fun with friends. If I was invited to a game and the DM then said that it was ten bucks a session you would have to pick me off the ground I'd be laughing so hard. I DM becuase it's fun, not for money.

Here is somthing else to consider: You game with someone who is a good mini painter. sure he might paint one or two for you for free but if you want him to paint a lot of figures then he is probably gonna charge you, does you good DM do LESS work or MORE?

I'm the only one in my group who paints minis, and I do a pretty nice job of it I must say. So did I charge my buddies to paint thier figs so we could get them in play? Of course not. I painted them all for free, I got the have the fun of painting them and seeign them on the field of battle looking nice. What more does one need?

I don't charge. But our group has an informal and unstated community policy.

I tend to buy players D20 books for their birthdays. The books all usually live at the house where we play, and can get checked out by anyone. We've got three or four PHBs, three DMGs, 2 monster manuals, and at least one of each of the splatbooks.

One guy paints miniatures. Another bought a really nice (and HUGE) mat that takes dry-erase markers, so we can have nice maps. Another guy handles initiative in the combats, and another guy chips in a bit more for pizza than anyone else.

I just wouldn't feel right charging for DM'ing. Two reasons, mostly. The first being that it is a labor of love. And if I charged a group for helping me buy books, and we eventually went our separate ways, another group might get the benefit of said books without having paid for them. That wouldn't be right in my mind. The second, and probably the bigger of the two reasons is that I just don't consider myself a good enough DM to actually charge people for it. I just don't have that kind of ego.

I just had a conversation about this with one of my players last week. I don't see paying the DM as a bad thing. DM's put alot of time into their games, and a lot of money. It's hard to come up with a cheaper 4+ hours of solid entertainment, even if you pay a small monthly fee. Movies are $10 and hour, even going to the bars is expensive. The only cheaper entertainment i've found is going to museums on the free day. Unfortunatlly they arrest you if you run around with the armor and swords there.
