PCs from Light Against The Dark

Updated Athan and Merideth. Greppa is still deciding on one final spell, so I'm holding off on his, but basically, he picked up 3rd level spells, improved his spell casting, and grabbed fireball and fly.

Updated Greppa again, this time when he devoted himself to Allas. Essentially, I took away his shadow spells, used the points to buy the Sun Specialist feat, and let him spend the 2 leftovers on sun spells (he took sun streaks, a redescribed magic missile, and then Quickened it :)).

Okay here goes ...

I noticed a Fly skill on Greppa's sheet. I can guess what its used for ... but how does it work? Fly checks to zoom around?

Erm ... missed the answer to this question. Nothing to see here ... move along.

What about Meredith's Ethereal Scout?

It looks like your system is working out really well. And my players have actually shown a little interest ... maybe I'll give them a short one-shot testing. :D

The arcanist's fly spell conjures kinetic thrust, which the subject then controls with concentration. Unlike the standard fly spell, this doesn't automatically pilot for you at Good maneuverability with "the same difficulty as walking". The subject has to concentrate.

Although the maneuverability of the spell is Good, your ability to use it is determined by the flight skill (trained only). DC 10 for normal movement, DC 15 for evasive movement (keeping your AC bonus, etc.), DC 20 for anything fancy (loop de loops, diving downa narrow tube after a falling medallion, etc.). A skill of 1 allows Greppa to Take 10 for all normal movement, and have a reasonable chance in combat situations.
What about Meredith's Ethereal Scout?
If I may quote myself...

"Merideth padded her spell repertoire with restore, remove paralysis, and ethereal scout, a new spell which works like clairaudience/clairvoyance, except that the caster's body is left unconscious, it has a shorter time limit (1 round per level), and she has travel time (movement rate 100)."

So far, so good. I am considering halving DR from armor AC, however. That DR 4 from earth's skin has begun to get irritating ;).

Irritating?

You're just mad because that green gross thing didn't munch on us :)

Leave the DR at least on spells. It's all the armor we have and the characters would have been dead without it.

Greppa, nice edit... however, the green gross thing would not quite have killed Merideth before her first cure spell got off. And that was the only real character death that seemed likely. And for your original post (pre-edit) which referred to armorcats - Athan didn't have earth's skin on at the time it hit him :).

I'm not changing the DR rule just yet, but the more I think about it, the more I think armor DR (from converted AC) should be reduced.

D'OH! See invisibility at long range, and strategic targeting of the biggest threat - not good.
See invisible is medium range (100 ft + 10 ft/level), but Greppa was within that range - he had to stay close enough to use his new magic missile and lightning bolt variants. The shamans equipped the giants with it as soon as they figured out that an arcanist was flying up there.
"explained the Sun Stone in glowing terms" - heh. ;) BTW, when Agina decided to not have Greppa using the stone, she was watching him - did he manage to use innuendo (untrained ;)) to convey the fact that he didn't think he should sit on the ground? Or did she just come to the same tactical conclusion?
Greppa just tried to present Thelanna's case fairly - Agina has sense motive and sense tactical idiot :).

Hey Seasong!

I was just wondering now that you've played for several months, how is the spellcasting system working out? Do the casters outshine the fighters? Or does everything seem to work out?

I just thought I'd see what your general impression overall was?

Thanks,

Delgar
