PC's in a sticky situation.

I'm looking for good ideas on how to deal with this situation.

My party consisting of a Barbarian Goliath, Human fighter, High Elf wizard(me), Human wizard and a tabaxi bard undertook a mission for the city's Head of the guard to dig up dirt on a ambassador from a nearby city. We were informed that he had been seen entering a leisure district ran by an rogue mob boss. Due to the nature of the mission we were doing it as essentially a black ops squad.

We came to the conclusion that the best way to get dirt would be to bribe the mob boss and head out to the district. Everything is going super smooth at this point. As we arrive at the district we are distracted by the varying entertainment in the district. Me and the human fighter head into a nearby drug parlour with the intention of securing drugs to plant on the ambassador if the negotiations with the mob boss goes south. As were are in the parlour failing con saves to not get high from the fumes, the bard and the human wizard decide to confront the mob boss themselves. 1 hour later of a split party me and the human fighter are back in the spotlight. As we exit the parlour 45mins has passed and the rest of the party is nowhere to be seen. (At this point the barbarian had to leave so we just said his character went back to the inn).

Me and the fighter figure that they must of go ahead to the mob boss because the bard is the group talker. We head over to a large ship where the mob boss resides. We enter chat to the the mob boss and notice blood on the ground coming to a deadstop in a perfect line( hinged floor). We succesfully pay him and do a serious of games for him to give us the information up until the point where the fighter gets tired of it a decides to just fight his way through.

Turns out the mob boss is a high level rogue with a high level goliath barbarian bodyguard and about 10 low level foot soldiers. The goliath smashes the fighter to less then half health on his first turn. by the time the initiative gets to me i dimension door onto the deck of the boat. They come looking for us so i then dimension door to a rooftop 400 ft away. conveniently our fighter is a sharpshooter and start picking them off as the come out of the boat. Not knowing where we are they take cover inside the ship.

This is the moment things start to go south. I cast fly on both me and the fighter then proceed to fly above the ship and rain fireballs. The griffon guards arrive to arrest us, (crazed wizard dropping fire on the entertainment district backed up by a sniper). I surrender and the fighter is also captured. Fortunately the guards arresting us are pretty fresh at their job and dont gag me and cant afford magic restricting manacles. As they carry me to the the keep in the air carried by the claws of one of the griffons i turn to the other rider next to me and say "i'm terrible sorry i have things to do. Eat my ass pig" and then dimenson door under an archway we flew past. As a 9th level wizard i'm now left with only 1 3rd level spells slot and all the 1st and 2nd level slots. I cast invisibility and run and escape.

The fighter is captured and imprisoned. (OOC i find out the human wizard and bard we're murdered by the mob boss and fed to some creatures under the ship.) This is where the session ended.

Due to the mission essentially being black ops my wizard is now a wanted for murder, inciting a riot, resisting arrest etc.

All i've come up with so far is getting out of the city and using my flying carpet to head south until i can get a long rest and can cast dream to contact my party members one by one. I also know seeming, teleportation circle which could be useful?. So what i'm really curious about is a way to potentially clear my name, rescue the damsel(The male human fighter) and find the goddam barbarian.

Running was probably not the best thing to do. You may have to get some illusion spells into your repertoire and just hide your identity in this city.

Is there anyway to try and pin this on the mob boss?

Can you have the barbarian rescue your fighter? Maybe pay to have him released?

And how did the wizard and bard die? Can you raise them?

Staying was probably not a good idea due to the city bing poor so the only viable soloution to imprisoning a spellcaster is to cut off their hands and tongue. Chances were i'd of got the death penalty and its hard to argue you your case without them.

i have seeming for an 8 hour disguise.

The barbarian in character and out of character has zero idea of what happened.(him we're gonna keep it a secret from him for genuine confusion rp.)

the wizard and bard were killed by the rogue and fed to some kind of snake creature inside the boat that i set fire to. So the chance of raising them is slim.

If the mob boss survived the ship could probably pin it on me easier. All the civilians would of seen is them get shot at on their ship and then fireballs dropped upon them.

Hmm ... unless you, the fighter and the barbarian can come up with something, I think this is an excellent opportunity to turn to your DM and say "We go hunt pirates" and watch him scramble. ;)

I already know the answer to that. "As you sail across the open waters you notice a gargantuan shape moving under the waves." Drum roll for TPK by kraken.

The DM is a she. Makes it super awkward for our bard to chat up wenches.

Probably why she killed him.

What if you go to the ambassador you were supposed to be spying on and tell him everything. "Hey, this mob boss and the head of the town guard want us to plant some incriminating evidence on you. Problem is, they want us dead too. If you get us out of here, we'll serve you instead!"

Alternatively, can the head of the guard get your fighter out of jail? It's a little Deus Ex-y, though.

the ambassador could be a good idea if he believes us but then the field marshal would probably increase efforts to kill me so the story doesn't get out. I'm sure after a long rest we can jailbreak the fighter.

well at the moment the next adventure seems to be jailbreaking the fighter and getting away with murder. We are already on a long quest we have been doing for months and have no desire to have my character executed by the guards. If we'd of all gone to see the rogue as a full party we'd of dumped on him but we failed the mantra "Don't split the party"

Don't feel bad, I was in a group once that was schooled by the DM's 7 year old daughter. He would always regale his family with tales of our adventures the next night at dinner. One particular evening, as he was telling his recap, his daughter slammed her hands on the table, stood up, and shouted "You don't split the party!" just as the DM said we had.

For jail breaking the fighter, can you just dim door in and out with him? That seems the simplest of solutions.
