Peacetime apology

So, up until a week or so ago, I'd been away from ENWorld for a very long time. That being the case, I want to say this, and I hope this isn't an inappropriate place for it.

During the 3E/4E split, I said some things that some people interpreted as insulting to 3E, PF, or people who played them. I never intended my comments to be taken that way, but things were pretty emotionally charged, and I wasn't nearly as careful with my words as I should have been, especially as someone working in the industry.

So, to anyone I offended at the time, my sincere apologies.

I kind of missed out on the worst of the edition wars, myself (thankfully), but at any rate...

Welcome back!

I wouldn't worry about it, to be honest no one cares. I don't mean that in a bad way either lol. Everytime I get into a heated debate on the internet I just think in a month the topic will be dead and no one will care about anything said. It's good to see an apology though, the internet needs more like this.

I think it's big of you to offer an apology, but I don't think it's necessary. This place (and pretty much every other forum for D&D, to a great or less extent) was toxic at the time. Like you, a lot of us were edition warriors, and a lot of us drifted away until only within the past few months. I was a Fouron/4venger in 2008. Nobody was innocent back then. None of us liked being told that we didn't like the right D&D. Every conversation was heated, and the community is forever changed for it.

EDIT: I suppose as an author in the industry, the stake might have been higher for you. But unless I missed some really juicy posts, I recall you seeming quite professional.

Agree that not that many were innocent.

And some of us didn't even leave, just stuck around for edition civil warring after the warring quitted down (someone had to tear down 4E to save it).

it seemed like a good idea at the time. But peace is better. Much better.

Peace and amnesties all around.

Don't give a damn, love you to death, glad you're back. :D

I was about to write a Meta post about this, but one thing I love most about Edition changes is seeing all the old faces popping up that haven't been back on sometimes literally in years. It's actually a little giddy for me seeing all those "Jan 2002" sign up dates popping up all over the place, folks who moved on to other pastures, but that "new edition" smell made 'em nostalgic, or curious, or both.

Regardless, welcome back, Ari!
