Or you can convert the higher level spell slots into magic missiles (I'm pretty sure this is explicitly stated in the rules...if it isn't, it's definitely not overpowered, as you really are losing efficiency by turning one 2nd level slot into one 1st level slot)...so a 10th level sorc (with no bonus spells) can cast 26 of them if he'd like.
