Periapt of wisdom bonus question

Periapts of wisdom and items like it have a text describing them:

"Property: Gain a +1 item bonus to Wisdom-based ability checks and Wisdom-based skill checks (but not Wisdom attacks)"

Would this apply to a utility power like Impetuous stride:

"Effect: You move your speed. If any creature makes an opportunity attack against you during this movement, that creature takes damage equal to 5 + your Wisdom modifier (+2)"

It's not necessarily an attack power, or even an attack it's a utility effect.

Any clarification someone can provide?

That effect is neither an ability check nor a skill check, so no. Ability checks and skill checks are fairly specific things, and therefore won't apply to damage rolls.

Oh that's right... ability checks ARE specific things (i usually never use them in my games :p) I was under the faulty idea that they weren't specific things.

Well blerg. thanks for the reminder.

Initiative, among other things, is an ability check, so you probably do use them. STR and DEX seem to be the most common ability checks though, WIS is not very common.
