Permanent Light Object

I guess the same amount of money it would cost you to have someone cast the spell, plus the material worth of the glass globe.
(I'd use a hooded lantern with permanent light instead, or a marble, for convenience)

It already exists; the Continual Flame spell.

Yeah, a character in a game I run wanted a small gem with continual flame on it in place of an everburning torch, he even has a slot in his armor to place the thing for hands free use. I let him have it for the cost of an Everburning Torch, plus the cost of the gem he wanted to use.

Having Permanency cast would be daft: not only is the spell not on the list of spells that can usually be made permanent, it's an expensive way to get the effect you're after. The minimum of 500XP for a permanent spell would make it cost 2,500gp (5gp per xp), plus 450gp minimum for the fact that permanency is a 5th-level spell, plus 45gp minimum for the 9th-level caster to cast light. That's a whopping 2,945gp.

If you follow the guidelines for magic item creation, you could create a permanent Light such as you describe using the Create Wondrous Item feat. That would result in a base price of 1,500gp.

Of course, this is still way too much: there's already a 3rd-level spell that does something practically identical; continual flame. That has a 50gp material component and would cost another 150gp if an NPC cast it for you. So the most such an item would be worth, reasonably, is 200gp market price, regardless of how expensive an option you chose to make it happen.

How much would a glass globe be worth if it had a Permanent Light spell cast on it so you could use it as a lantern?

spell + materials

but why a glass globe? crossbow bolt holed for a rope would be far more useful ... carry as torch, hang from belt, affix rope and fire down hallway to see whats there then pull back via rope (ditto for wells/chasms), fire into foes for backlight, etc.

50% breakage chance on a miss though, right?

What edition?

In 3e, you're looking at the cost of a continual flame + the cost of blowing a glass globe around it.

In 1e and 2e, you're looking at the cost of a continual light + the cost of blowing a glass globe around it.
