Petition For Wizards To Not Publish A PoL Map

My vote is for "no." 'PoL' is not a campaign setting, hell, its not a setting! 'Points of Light' is simply a design philosophy for what a setting should look like on a local scale, and includes some very basic cross-world applicable D&D themes. Therefore, PoL should not get a map.

Hell, just use the Map of Mystery from the last (or second-last? I forget) Dungeon magazine. For this sort of thing, one map is as good as another.

One more vote for no map...please!

It is one thing to have flavorful names etc...I don't want a map setting all sorts of expectations...

That was exactly my thought when I saw the original thread.

I agree. In fact, in my opinion "canon" and "core" are self-contradictory concepts. I cringe whenever someone complains about how the "core canon" of D&D was changed.

It's taking all my willpower-- well, a significant portion, at least-- not to post a thread along the lines of "Petition for WotC to do whatever the heck they think is best with respect to a PoL map"

You, sir, are a model of restraint and I salute you!

I don't want WOTC to publish a map for the implied PoL setting. I want this to remain very much just an implied setting. I for one still plan on using Greyhawk or Darksun or my own invention to run campaigns in. I fear if WOTC actually creates a fully fleshed out default setting that it will then be tempted to produce a lot of stuff in core books and splat books that is geared specifically to this default setting, which will not be useful to my games. That campaign specific material belongs in campaign sourcebooks (for Forgotten Realms, Eberron, and any new settings that are published) and not in the core books.

Agreed on all counts.

glass.

They should publish a Points of Light map. Then they should publish another mutually exclusive one. Then another. Give the DMs who don't enjoy literal worldbuilding maps that are designed for the purpose without establishing any sort of implied canon of where things must be.
