PHB errors and reprint schedule

I'm scared to click on any of these links -- I'm certain one of them will be a rick roll :-P

By the way, Mr Rouse, you seem to have taken several ranks in Thick Skin. Is that purely from skill ranks and feats? Or does lack of sleep as we approach release and perhaps a little alcohol to celebrate the freshly printed pages offer you some circumstance bonus?

Scott, as a bit of constructive criticism, I know a few old time gamers and quite likely former employees of TSR might be a tad offended by you comparing the former staff of TSR as old passed out drunks.

If that is the conclusion we are drawing then? The passed out old drunks evolved into a cabal of genocidal despots.

Insulting your elders is a bit rude, don't you think?

Remember I work with some of those old TSR folks, I think they have a better sense of humor than that.

I hope they aren't using the same company to do the printing that is doing the Star Wars SAGA stuff, because so far every SAGA book I've seen had printing errors in it. I'm not talking about editing but things like ink running, overly thin type or overly think type, etc. Every copy of Starships of the Galaxy in one shop, and the two copies of the Core book I've seen. Quality control of the printing of those books has been terrible so far.

If they did indeed do this, then that in turn suggests two possibilities:

1. To find the errors, it really is necessary to have a large body of readers. This would mean that they need to increase the number of viewers (or give up on this idea).

2. They didn't pick the right people. Next time, I would suggest picking specifically those people who posted the KotS errors to ENWorld. I suspect that those people will be effective in finding errors.

Do you know how they selected people to edit the pre-release version of KotS?

option 3: the process of correcting errors itself creates errors.

If you buy a product that has these QC errors please let our customer service department know. We can't see every book and we will go back to the printer if we are hearing of problems and ask for corrective action to be taken.

We'll also likely replace your book if the problem is significant.

Huge dittoes here. I had to take back my first Saga book because the pages with the weapon tables was literally painful to read. The print alternated between too heavy and too light in waves down the page, and was blurry, to boot. It was physically headache inducing, and on a frequently referenced page. I felt bad about sticking my FLGS proprietor with the problem, but, awesome guy that he is, he was happy to make it right for me.

Good to hear, for reference.

I suspect, (and this is how I took it) that the pic was indicative of that particular Iraqi General's tendancy to blatantly lie through his teeth and deny the truth to the general public about the circumstances happening there at that point in time.

Oh, so true... if I had a nickle for every time someone freaked out about a possible problem in 4e, well I'd be a rich man...

Well, maybe not, but I'd have a nice big back of nickles.

My take on WOTC's editing is that they do a darn good job. Yes, they make mistakes, but that is going to happen on 1st print runs. It just is and to me it's completely forgivable.

I work as an editor/proof reader for a marketing company and I'd consider myself pretty good at what I do, but things get by. We do our best, but it happens. With the whirlwind that is 4e and with all of the rules changes and last second modifications, things are going to be missed. That is the purpose of 2nd print runs.

Humerous editing story: I was at Home Depot the other day looking at kitchen ceiling lights. One of the light boxes had a Spanish translation on the side facing me. As I can read Spanish, I opted to read it instead of spinning it around to the English side. One of the subheads read "Lorem Ipsum Dolor". Any copy editor knows that those words are used as "greek" filler until you get the correct text to fill it in. Oops! -- It happens all the time.

I saw a lot of complaints on the Star Wars forum at the release of SAGA about print quality, not so many on the SotG release (but then I didn't complain myself, and I wasn't visiting the forum as much then) it does appear there is/was a bit of an issue.

We'll also likely replace your book if the problem is significant.

Both my Core book and SotG were still readable, and on Starships of the Galaxy it was only on the some of the Chapter heading pages, black lines across the two page images. So it wasn't that significant.
