D&D 5E PHB...finally!

I'm not a poor man by any stretch of the imagination, yet I am a man who has priorities and so often fun things like D&D take a major backseat to those things with higher priorities. So after a very long and honestly a very impatient wait, I'm finally purchasing the PHB. I've been riding along with the Starter+Basic for the time being and it has served extremely well. In fact, the current campaign I'm running is a Basic Rules Only campaign, for simplicity sake and I plan on continuing that rule for that campaign. I'm a huge Basic Rules fan, not just because it's free, but stripped down has it's own benefits.

But I am glad to be able to grab the PHB and explore what everyone has had for a while!

Now to figure out which book to grab next time when I have a bit of extra scratch!

Congrats!

I would suggest the MM next, especially as you stated you liked stripped down rules. The MM will not add any new rules, but will give you plenty of fun baddies to toss at your players.

Happy gaming!

If you want monsters ready to go, definitely the MM next.

If you have other resources for monsters and would be okay converting them, then you could go with the DMG next.

I do think I'll grab the DMG next...I mean I do have the Basic Monsters... and the DMG looks like it has lots of fun stuff to tinker with. The article on Geekdad about rolling a random dungeon almost made me want to grab the DMG first!

I just bought the PHB for my birthday! It looks great, and all the new class options are exciting. I do think someone who's never played tabletop before might be overwhelmed with some of the options.

Has anybody else noticed that the Elemental Way monk is a low-powered Last Airbender simulator?

I got the Starter Set on July 3rd, but money concerns pushed me getting the Holy Trinity off until Feb 13th. So I got all three as my Birthday/Christmas/Valentine's Day gifts to me, all at once.

Congrats man! I wanted to buy all the 5E stuff right away but I had to wait a bit too... I got my own PHB in December and then the rest of what I wanted in January and February.

The 5E PHB really is one of the best PHBs for D&D ever made. Enjoy it and have fun!
