Depends on the Core class. I'd say he outstrips fighters, monks and rangers at higher levels, like many new warrior classes seem to. But I'd say it's even with barbarians, druids, clerics and wizards.

Some may not like it, but I think it just means that wizards aknowledges that warrior classes have keep up with casters.

You didn't offer a choice of slightly more powerful than the core classes. Yes, it's a powerful class, but I have a psionic warrior in my game I feel is more powerful then the duskblade... at least at level 7.

edit: pah, you said core classes. Better than those classes, yes for the most part. I better go get my glasses fixed.

Having played a duskblade...

No. Not too powerful at all.

The duskblade shines very brightly, and--despite his apparently large numbers of spells--burns out very quickly. In a campaign with fewer-than-average fights, the duskblade might come across as a little bit overpowered, but not much.

In a "standard" campaign? No. Not overpowered at all.

I've seen a few duskblades now. They're pretty effective as long as they have spells to burn, but why would they be considered overpowered?

No because I would honestly like to see a fighter/mage hybrid that can cast higher than 5th level spells. :p I mean if they stopped at 8th, fine. But only 5th? No way.

I am choosing this class for a new campaign which is using something akin to the RPGA. I'm choosing to unlock this particular class because through 1st and 2nd ed I loved having a multi-classed F/M-U.

This gives that benefit with only getting spells upto 5th level and fighting as good as a warrior. They only get D8 for HP which is equivalent to the Psywar. The Psywar gets powers upto 6th level power but is a step inferior in fighting. He get a choice of upto 8 fighter/psionic related feats in addition to the level dependent ones. This balances out to the specific special qualities that the Duskblade gets. I see them as equitable classes.

Yes, he is probably stronger in some situations than either a fighter or a wizard but will lack when compared to the pure class overall.

My 2 cents. Opinion

I think they went a little overboard on the limitations of their spell list. Every one will look the same (they'll all have Shocking Grasp at least,) without some allowance of a little more leeway in that regard. It only makes sense that Wraithstrike and Critical Strike, off the top of my head, should be on their list.

Those are Spell Compendium spells, and thus are not going to be on any new class list because a given supplment cannot assume that a player has access to anything but the three core books. But as with anything, a DM can simply house-rule in spells from other sources.

So far, I've seen a 5th-level and an 11th-level duskblade in one fight each. Both flat-out owned their opponents. Not even close.

There's a duskblade PC in my game right now, she's 3rd level. Really too early to say if she's too powerful, but I don't see it happening. I do think the number of spells per day at higher levels is excessive, but mostly just in comparison to other classes, because honestly, who fights 50+ rounds a day?
