The Duskblade is, IMO, an extremely well constructed class with a definite niche. Most importantly, though, it provides a way for a player to play a Gish character as a Gish from the start, instead of waiting till 8th+ level to do so.

I think they went a little overboard on the limitations of their spell list. Every one will look the same (they'll all have Shocking Grasp at least,) without some allowance of a little more leeway in that regard. It only makes sense that Wraithstrike and Critical Strike, off the top of my head, should be on their list.

Giving Duskblades Wraithstrike, while fitting, would give them a huge boost in power overall. Wraithstrike is borderline ridiculous for its level.

So far, I've seen a 5th-level and an 11th-level duskblade in one fight each. Both flat-out owned their opponents. Not even close.

That's not a very useful data set, to be honest. Traditional casters will always own in a one-fight situation where they can nova as much as they want to.

Having played a duskblade...

No. Not too powerful at all.

The duskblade shines very brightly, and--despite his apparently large numbers of spells--burns out very quickly. In a campaign with fewer-than-average fights, the duskblade might come across as a little bit overpowered, but not much.

In a "standard" campaign? No. Not overpowered at all.
I think the vampire mouse has it. The duskblade can do a couple of really big hits in a day, but needs to seriously blow through its spells fast to do so.

Also, the duskblade is one of those classes which has certain levels when it compares better with other classes than others. If compared to other combat-oriented classes, it's very good from levels 1-5, but is much less so from levels 6-12, when it has to attack only once a round if it wants to use its Arcane Channeling ability, while other BAB=level classes are attacking twice or thrice on a full attack. From 14th to 20th it's very strong again, due to Arcane Channeling (full attack), but every other class is pretty good at those levels and the dedicated spellcasters are still ahead of it power-wise.

I'm sorry. I didn't realize that I was writing a research proposal. When I complete the study I'll publish the results in the Scientific Journal of These Are My First Impressions And I Thought That Would Be Obvious By The Nature Of My Post.

I was trying to find a polite way of saying, "That's a pointless observation, why are you bothering to share it with us." Next time I'll be more direct.
