It's cheaper because you're running so many fewer pages through the press. Twice. (Unless its a two 'page' printing setup.) And that includes the plates that need to be made for the run, many fewer of those too.Huh... Learn something new everyday as they say!
I guess it's cheaper or soemthing to print on the big pages then cut? Seems like extra steps would cost more money to me though. Or does it have to do with more wiggle room for making sure stuff is straight?
Seeing that you got it from a brick and mortar store and you'll likely have it fixed quickly enough, I hope you won't mind if I say that's actually fairly amusing.
I'd almost be tempted to keep it as an oddity if I could spare the money for another copy.
I'm curious how the binding is. I'd imagine that the covers are set up so that there's not a whole lot of wiggle room. Do the missing pages cause the binding to be loose at all?

What typically happens in a case like this is that one signature is missing and another is duplicated. For example, pages 193 to 224 probably appear twice in the OP's original copy, leaving the final page count correct (and someone else's copy will have the opposite problem).I'm curious how the binding is. Seems my book is missing pages 161 to 192.
