PHB2 sold out!

EDIT: Nintendo have made a profit every one of those years, an amazing achievement and partly due to their business culture I suspect.

Not to mention that Nintendo made a profit on every unit solid, when typically game hardware is a loss leader. Quite an achievement they had there.

Eh.

Always sold at a profit
- almost all pre-Dreamcast systems, and all Nintendo systems (well, the GameCube was very briefly sold at a small loss)

Always sold at a loss
- Sega Dreamcast, Microsoft Xbox, PS3 (presumably)

Initally sold at a loss, but became profitable in the long run
- PS2, Xbox 360 (presumable; would almost certainly be sold at a profit now without the RRoD issues)

Considering that the game sales for the Wii are rather bad (Except for Wii Fit there aren't many Wi games in teh sale ranks, and that with the huge number of Wii systems sold) this should better be the case, otherwiese it would be a complete failure.

The Wii was not a sure thing, with hindsight it is easy to ask why they didnt ramp up productions, but internally it was seen as a risk.

That's similar to what Dancey has been saying about how WotC felt about PhB2, although much more spectacular (both regarding the risk and the actual sales) than with the PhB2.

The Wii has very healthy software sales, a good tie ratio and more revenue for 3rd parties than both HD platforms combined. The sales trend is different for the Wii, they are slow burn sales. You get a 360 game of the month and it sells really well in the first month and - usually - the sales drop off exponentially. Most games on the HD platform don't have legs.

On the Wii the consumers don't seem to follow this trend, they buy games from all over the place, new or old. There are some games that are consistently in demand and chart regularly high - usually first party - but most hang around the bottom of the charts forever.

The issues with Wii games and devs/publishers is conplex and ongoing. The publishers, and Nintendo themselves, have not catered towards the traditional core market and hence any games released for that market have not done very well, that side of the wii market has been left to die a little. And it is everyones fault.

Anyway, I'm starting to ramble on here...

Sold out is such a misleading term, just because WOTC has ran out doesn't really mean it's flying off the shelf though, just means the stores bought alot.

I walked into my local hastings and noticed... PHB2 ain't all that sold out.

yeah there were almost that many when i got mine.... they appearently ordered ALOT release day, and havn't sold many more than mine
