Pillar of Attraction/Repulsion

First Post
just a question regarding the spell where it says
"A failed saving throw indicates that the attacker is drawn to a pillar of Attraction and held fast, or flung 5d6 feet away by a pillar of Repulsion, taking 2d4 pionts of damage"

does this mean that characters that fail their saving throw and are drawn to a pillar of attraction take 2d4 pionts of damage to? One of players thinks so but i disagree does any body have any comments that would help clear this up.
thanks
