Pimp my spooky tomb encounter

Is there anything to stop an incorporeal creature staying inside the floor and touch-attacking people's feet?

Apart from the obvious "it's really annoying" and the cover/concealment penalties then...

I guess they could just sneak in an other sqare and ready attacks to hit the incorporeal creature.

Yeah, definitely - it's just for the spooky wtf moment of "You and you - you feel numbing cold seeping into your feet and shins. You can barely keep upright with the shock. Oh, and you both lose 3 Strength."

The incorporeal traits section of the DMG does put some limitations on the "inside solid objects" stuff. For example, even a few inches is enough to effectively blind an incorporeal creature. So these monsters could potentially be swinging blindly, if they go too deep for protection.

Good point. I reread the rules, and the expanded version in Libris Mortis. Weird that incorporeal undead can't go through stuff bigger than them - I guess they can't completely 'let go' of their old mental image. Still - I've got so much to work on now that I'm adding a fork in the tunnel and trapping it. Considering how empty of resources they are at the minute, the sight of a fork should get them resting. The fact that they're only 600xp from levelling might make them risk going on.

Oh, the delicious metagame tension will pump up the in-game tension nicely!
