Pirate dress code question

The only dress code requirement for pirates is to look as ambiguously gay as possible. Bonus points if you actually are gay.

Also, if I had the power, I would command Something Awful to do a pirate Photoshop Phriday.....with mah authoritah.

The whole sash/belt thing is easier than you think. Which one is wider? Than wear that one behind the other so both can be seen, and you do not stick your pistol in your sash, you shove your loaded pistols (as many as you possibly can) wherever you can. What you didn't want happening was for you to draw your pistol and find that the powder got wet, so you're standing there with a really tiny club... instead you fire your pistol (usually from your "off-hand" while you have a blade in the other hand, as each pistol is fired, it's dropped and a new one replaces it, the threat that you can shoot it is incorporated into your fighting.

Thanks to all the HELP from folks here, I had to go looking for examples to answer my question. From what I could tell, it's not just a matter of stylish appearance. ... Sure, the sash goes on first as a matter of fashion, bringing the shirt and pants together with a jaunty flash of color. But the belt gets strapped on after, so that you can easily unburden yourself if you end up treading water.

But it seems to be an iffy area; too much variation in pirate accessories to make a hard rule on it.

Whenever I'm in doubt about such things, I find I'm best served by checking the covers of Avalanche Press RPG supplements; their fashion sensibilities are usually unerring, and I know they have a book about pirates.

THAT is awesome.

Djeta is standing right beside me as I write this. She says, and I quote, "You made my week. You're my hero."

That is a riot.

The chain newsagents never know which section to put Pirates Quarterly in.

The pirate dress code is extremely serious. For every pirate who gets away with dressing differently, there are a dozen cases of crews mutinying and making their captain walk the plank when he violates the dress code. I know that hair must be either shaven or long and ringleted, and Joshua Dyal is right about the beard and sash, but as a non-pirate I admit much of the code is mysterious to me. I know that gentlemen pirates occasionally get dispensations, such as using a rapier instead of a cutlass.
