Piratecat is mostly on vacation this week

Just a heads up for people who need admin things -- I'm mostly on vacation from EN World this week. I'm having annoying computer problems that may require me to send my laptop back to the manufacturer, as well as a busy real-world schedule. Please ask other moderators for things instead of me if you can't wait 'til I'm back!

Many thanks,

Piratecat

Oh, no...computer issues...I hope it is not that nasty pop-up worm...that adds seach bars to IE, fills your screen every 10 minutes with pop ups and screws with your WINSRV.DLL. That one is a pain to get fixed. :(

Nope, thank goodness. The problem is that I'm not getting any power to my Dell laptop unless the cord is jiggled just right, and the margin of error has shrunk to the point that I can pretty much no longer get ANY power at all. With 15 minutes left on my batteries and no idea whether the problem is related to the cord or the motherboard/socket, I'm working out a solution. This means that I'm away from email as well until this is resolved.

AAAHHHH!!!

do you know what this is? or how to get rid of it?

I've gone to control panel and add/remove programs and it seems to work ... well this last time it worked (so far) and the search bars haven't come back, nor the dozen or so favorites it dropped in.

I still get the hordes of pop-ups though. I tried a free site that checked for virus' and trojan horses, it found a bunch. The trick was you have to pay for the actual program to get rid of them (was endorsed by PC magazine/gamer though).

and it's got to be sucking up some system resources as well, my k6-2 475/ 256 MB used surf fine (yeah roadrunner), now it tends to drag on a bit.

looks like what PKitty needs is a Miracle.

i think you can't get one cheap/ at a discount.

ick, you're right ... they might have to replace the entire motherboard, and laptops are crammed as is.

it would be nice if the just copied you system specs then put your HD in a new 'puter ...

good luck PCs
