Pit Fiend Defenses Explained

First Post
From the Pit Fiend stats released a while back. Sorry if someone else already cracked these:

Pit Fiend ability scores have 1/2 level figured into total bonus, so subtract key ability from DC
number like this:

AC 44 keys from STR bonus +24 so base DC is 20; Paragon base is 20
FORT 42 keys from CON bonus +21 so base DC is 21; Paragon base is 20, +1 for class
REF 38 keys from DEX bonus +20, so base DC is 18; Paragon base 20 -2 for size penalty
WILL 40 keys from WIS bonus +18, so base DC is 22; Paragon base 20 +2 for class

That poor naked pit fiend has no natural armor!

AC bonus from STR ???

Interesting! (got a source?). That's not what I was expecting, but it seems consistent.

And Pitty doesn't get any armor bonus from his Rune-carved breastplate, either. Which does make life easier...

And given that his stats are HIGH, I'm going to guess that his defenses are higher than is typical of Level 26 beings in general. So, he's somewhat of a damage sponge via high defenses and high hit points?

It's the only way the numbers work. If you've seen other stuff, please, point me there.

Keep in mind, I could be wrong. I would guess that if Paragon grants base 20, then Epic grants base 15, Heroic (of course) base 10 for Defenses.

I don't think it is, but the math might have worked out nicely for the OP when he used that as a base?

I think some bonuses might come from the Elite, Solider (Leader) designation, and there might be a bonus based on the lack of magical items in regards to NPC/PC balance. (maybe +1 for every 4 levels)

I think you have Epic and Paragon tiers mixed up there.

Interesting break-down, though.

Unfortunately, no. I had been diddling with the formula for this, and I kept plugging DEX in for AC, and it just would not reduce in a clean consistent fashion. For giggles I tried STR and the numbers just fell into place.
