Pit Fiends on Patrol

The Nine Hells aren't finite either. Each layer is said to be infinite in size. Yes, the Abyss has more layers but is it really more infinite than Hell?

My money's on the organised armies of Hell over the directionless hordes of the Abyss.

But yeah, I'm with Lancelot. The idea of such powerful forces in the DnD-Verse is one I love. I don't like the idea that the PCs are the biggest baddest in the whole enitre cosmos, there's always something bigger and badder. And Hell has legions of devils any one of whom should give an Epic PC a run for their money. No-one should consider storming the Gates of Hell to be a push over. Shoot, there's a reason Heaven hasn't tried it.

Of course, there's also a reason those forces haven't overwhelmed the Armies of Goodness & Light (and Unicorns & Glitter)...

Actually since Abyss has infinite infinities it is bigger than hell which has finite infinities. Math does support this comparison (the abyss is a set of infinite sets which has a greater cardinality than the nine hells as supported by aleph numeration in set theory):)

No self respecting Devil wants to get glitter on their bat-wings.

The Nine Hells and the Abyss hace always been since as corrupting to the angels while at the very least the Seven Heavens appear to be utterly destructive to evil and Elysium seems powerfully warded against evil. Anyone can enter the Lower Planes.
