  • Let her have a limited number of arrows! She gets them, but only like a d4 or d6 of each!

If the arrows are meant to be used as treasure why are they not listed as treasure and are instead only listed as an ability in their statistics block? It should not take a seperate book to find out what the gold value of these arrows are or how many a pixie might be carrying.

The pixie statistics block leaves too much in the air in my opinion.

My DM ruled the pixies either have to buy the arrows (impossible at our current location) or make them - which requires the craft arms and armor feat and some other stuff(I'm not sure of the particulars but we're level 11 and no arrows yet). The sorceress may get it at level 12, but frankly the arrows won't be that big by that point.

The same reason why drow poison isn't listed as treasure for the drow.

Yeah, right. What's her Charisma score, 26? 28? 30? It's like a DC 20 Fort save minimum, that arrow is like the bane of all things non-melee or non-tough-as-crap.

Without knowing a gold piece cost or a crafting difficulty class? All of these the dungeon master has to make up or take from a different source. That is pretty poor planning on the part of whoever made that monster entry.

Poor planning?

I do not have the drow entry at hand currently though. Are the drow listed as having an extraordinary ability to have any of their attacks inflict drow poison on whoever they hit?

I think you have your answer. Let them play a pixie, but don't let them have the arrows without some stiff requirements if at all. Heck, unless they're starting near a pixie forrest just rule the pixie used all the arrows she had in getting to her current location, good luck getting replacements, problem solved.

This pixie has 26 charisma

DC 20 is not negligible at level 5.

Well, she begins as an ECL 5 character, a level 1 pixie rogue.

It's got a +10 to hit with its bow

The pixie has a racial adjustment to charisma of +6 so that means that this rogue pixie had a base charisma score of 20? That could mean a starting 18 with a +2 item though.

In order to get +10 with the bow that will take a dexterity of 28. It could be a +1 bow though and the pixie does get a +8 to dexterity so that would bring the starting dexterity down to 18.

What method are you using to generate the characters statistics? It looks like there are two 18's right there!

We had a pixie in one of our games. He ended up quitting because he was SOOO underpowered. +4 LA is a LOT. The dex bonus just exactly cancels that out for dex based skills, but you lose feats and hit dice for it as well... The dex makes up for the loss of levels for hitting, but you're still

Sure, at levels 12+ you start to become halfway decent, assuming you're playing a rogue or some very very similar class. They are abysmal fighters and spellcasters because of the LA. Rogue is your only choice.

As others have said, the arrows are not a feature of the race, so she doesn't get them.

I think you'll find it's fine... but I really hope the player is an experienced player, because an inexperienced one will get herself killed in the first battle.

So... I think they're fine. In a normal, fairly battle heavy campaign it'll be good, slightly underpowered and horribly fragile. In a stealth based campaign they'll be really good.

*shrug* No huge brokenness here.

Easy there, tiger. ;)

In your initial post, you wrote as if you were allowing the pixie as a beginning PC. PCs begin at level 1, so...... I'm glad to see you're up on the whole ECL thing. Many, many, many people are confused by it. Many.

You've got the answer to your initial question: Pixie PCs don't automatically gain the magical arrows. It's in the rules text. Done.

Next! :D
