Planar Binding in AL

NeverLucky

First Post
If you manage to Planar Binding a creature, it would follow you around as expected, just like Simulacrum, familiars, paladin steeds, etc. If it's properly logged and you're not completely abusing it (like binding an entire army), DMs really shouldn't be disallowing it, at least the first one. It's a legitimate spell that doesn't come into use very often, and players have a right to expect that their spells work as written in the book if they do manage to use them.

That said, it's very hard to actually use that spell. It has a very long casting time, so you would have a hard time casting it on anything unwilling. Magic Circle also has a longer than average casting time, so that doesn't help. All conjure spells require concentration, so you can't cast a conjure spell and then cast Planar Binding on it (since casting a spell with a long casting time requires concentration). It requires something extraordinary (such as Wish or a Spell Gem or just another spellcaster) in order to use Planar Binding at all.

I tend to agree. However it probably needs some FAQ guidance in line with other similar spells (Simulacrum of Simulacrum, etc).

Binding creatures summoned with Conjure Elemental (or other spells that don't send the creature away when concentration is broken) work if you put them in Magic Circles before casting Planar Binding.
