Planar Metropoli concepts

Union, another such metropolis, is described in the Epic Level Handbook.

Ow, the pain! the pain!

Let's not mention that city again, mkay? ;)

Anyways, thanks for the input. However, I am aware of Sigil &cetera. The basis is this thread is not to recount existing concepts (except for where they might exist as examples of the principle), but to consider how you can use the concept of "planar pathway junctions" as the basis for a city concept.

There's also the idea of Cynosure (from the Grimjack universe).

What is this Grimjack universe of which you speak.

(Though it sounds like a great idea for/would be well handled by Second World Sourcebook.)

Ronin Arts has been working on a few new planar products, one of which is a city . And the "Six More Planar Gates" we'll be releasing in the next few days includes a gate to Shadowsilk, a planar city on the edge of the Plane of Shadows. I especially enjoyed writing the gateway to Shadowsilk since it's the shadow of a merchant that doesn't even know his shadow is a gate. With the Princess gate (an immensely fat princess that is a gate to thousands of worlds) and a few others that are in there I'm thinking I'll need to title this one "Six Unusual Planar Gates."

EDIT: Okay, it turned into "Six Living Planar Gates."

Grimjack was an awesome comic series that I swear was one of the inspirations for Rifts. The city, Cynosure, has pockets of various relaties scattered about it -- such as a zone where tech doesn't work at all so the main character goes there to trap a gang armed with guns.

I'm picturing the Venice of the Planes. Multiple dimensional rivers feeding into a mess of little overbuilt islands, Pit fiends in gondolas, Sauguin fish vendors, Intrigue, Excess, Art, touchy honor, touchier guilds, an Ilithid Michalangelo....

That sounds a might bit farcical, though it has potential if you play down the humorous juxtapositions and play up the potentials. I picture barges crewed by devils, bound for the nether planes with their cargoes of damned souls.

Another concept I am thinking of is a city where the world ash Ygdrassil dips its roots into the river of worlds. A bayou-like landscape where tendriled roots descend from the sky, mini villages and docks coalesce where the roots touch the water, and dwellings of the wealthy carved into the roots overhead, along the worm-burrowed passages that lead off to other planes.

Down in the roots is where Corpse tearer gnaws and lies in a pool of his venomous bile.

Y'know, that seems obvious, but I missed it totally.

That has some interesting implications. Perhaps part the body of the corspe tearer is an island, unbeknownst to some inhabitats, until it stirs from its slumber.

The now sadly out of print game Nexus: The Infinite City was more or less based on it. It's an awesome game that I highly recommend.
