Planescape 3.5e - Cold Black Mask

[sblock=Cage-Rattler & Sonata] Still moving... *grunt* "My people don't take oaths lightly my lady; we've been lied to far too often. I won't make promises about things I can't control." *grunt*[/sblock]

"The Harmonium enforce the laws of the city with a heavy hand, it's said," the spike-skinned woman agreed. "But as long as we can convince them that we were legally defending ourselves from an unprovoked attack, they should have no reason to trouble us."

=======================================

István, Sonata:[sblock] "Well, at least you'll let me come along and hear what he has to say?" The woman pressed István, probing for some way around his continued recalcitrance. As she questioned the gnome, she moved into position to help him in dragging the unconcious reave toward the boarding house.

It was hard work, and although István had removed the brute's thick breastplate, the grunts of the mismatched pair along with the act of pulling the heavy body along created more than a small amount of noise. One of the guardsmen who had been moving around the outside of the boarding house paused and held up one hand to halt his partner; with his other hand, he lifted his lantern high and peered into the misty night.

"Oi, who's out there? Come forward and show yourself!"[/sblock]

"Well, I guess that's that then. Down we go!" And, suiting actions to words, Sindr cheerfully strolls downstairs and into the common room, making sure to keep his hands well away from his spell component pouch.

[sblock=Cage-Rattler & Sonata]The wayfarer stumbles out of the misty night with the four-armed brute's prone body in tow. The diminutive gnome finally comes to a stop when he enters into the circle of light cast by the Hardhead's lantern. Dropping the brute's arm to the ground, István straightens up, rolls his shoulders with relief and turns to answer the man's question: "I'm a patron of this boarding house. I was upstairs sleeping when this troll and two humans broke down this door and threatened violence. My companions and I disarmed and blinded this brute and subdued one of the humans, while the other was mistakenly struck down by his blind thrashing. I offered the troll surrender but he instead tried to flee with magic. I was forced to run him down and subdue him by force. He's injured, though he'll survive. And here we are."[/sblock]

Heinrich sheathes his sword - though he leaves his shield strapped to his arm - and follows Sindr down the stairs, keeping his gauntleted hand away from the hilt of his weapon.

Vervain looks around the room and the people still in it, as if reluctant to go down and meet the Harmonium, then sweeps down the stairs after Sindr and Heinrich.
OOC: Vervain is taking a couple rounds to examine the room with his detect magic ability. And, in case there are any more imps around, he also sees invisible continuously. (Obviously, if he finds one of those, he won't sweep off down the stairs.)

(DOH! I was going to do something, but I couldn't post until now. Drat. Oh well. :))

Vervain:[sblock]The warlock's new companions sported a sizeable array of enchanted arms, armor, and other curios; other than that, though, Vervain's enhanced sight revealed nothing out of the ordinary.[/sblock]

Downstairs, the company was greeted by a quartet of watch-officers; all were uniformly clad in bright red breastplate, and one -- presumably the ranking officer -- bore impressive, sweeping spikes on his epaulets. Longswords seemed to be the standard issue, and each guardsperson also carried a sturdy wooden trucheon looped in their belts. One guardsman, positioned near the body of the fallen attacker, carried an odd pole-arm in lieu of a sword; the device was set with a curious pair of curved jaws at its business end. Another officer tood nearby, taking account of the testimonies of the boarding house owner and remaining guests.

The ornately-armored guardsman stepped forward to intercept the group , followed closely by one of his subordinates.

"I'm Measure One Listell of the Harmonium," the first officer began in a deep, stern voice. His eyes flicked over the group. "Which of you wants to tell me what went on here?"

István & Sonata[sblock] The guardsman started slightly at the sight of the downed reave, then looked back to the gnome, with a note of awe. "An impressive feat, if true. You'd better go inside and give your testimony to Measure Listell -- you'll know him once you see him. Both of you," he added, raising his lantern to better illuminate Sonata, who had been lingering in the shadows. "Leave the injured reave here for now; Notary Amasa and I will watch over him." He nodded to his fellow officer.[/sblock]

[sblock=Cage-Rattler & Sonata]The weary gnome nods his scarf covered face to the Harmonium Notary. "The troll has magic to shift from place to place and I went through a lot to capture him. If it's all the same, I'll just go ahead and drag him inside to show Measure Listell now." Bending down and grabbing ahold of the reave's pauldrons, the gnome grunts and starts hauling the unconscious brute through the shattered doorway. "You're welcome to help."[/sblock]
Emerging from the darkness outside, István appears in the boarding house's shattered entryway dragging the four-armed brute's battered and unconscious bulk behind him. *grunt* "'lo all."

Sonata gives the hardhead a long-suffering sigh to let him know her time was valuable and her part in this was small...but trudges after the tiny man. The Harmonium was so -tiresome- to deal with, but it was better than just giving up.

She nods at the others in mute greeting, as if she'd always known them.
