Planning the games

Well, I have posted the game and there are now 17 views of the thread. No one has signed up for the game yet...

I even e-mail the 10 new players who seemed very interested in finding new games.

Just a few points:

1. I am running the first adventure of the Druid arm of the campaign on Sunday evening. Any DM's who want to observe/help are welcome to sign in.

2. Who will run the first adventure against the Hobgoblin? I would like to see that run about a week after this one. That way we can alternate each week until the climax in 7 weeks.

3. Arkhandus, how is design of the town of Tillich coming? I need a map if you have it. Even if it is basic.

4. I would like to have a planning session on Monday evening at 9PM CST on Better Games Public Server. Room = The 13 Kingdoms. Password = Brainstorm.

Frikkin' H..... Just last night I posted a map and such, and it seemed to load up fine, but now it seems my reply has disappeared into the Abyss.... I'll try posting it again, but I am NOT retyping all the crud I wasted my time on last night..... !#^!$#%!#!$"]!#^!$#%!#!$

Edit: In case the frikkin' cowpie of a forum fails yet again to actually post my picture without hurling it into the Abyss again like it did last night, here's the URL to the picture on my webpage.
Edit Again: Changed the link. Might work now. Don't much give a d#%n any more.

Hey all, here's a basic overhead map of what the new fortress/town by the river near Tillich's ruins will look like if and when it is completed. I'll start work on the current appearance of the place-in-construction soon, unless anyone here tells me beforehand that they want/need something to look different, be larger or smaller, or be arranged differently. Let me know if I should turn the orientation of the map, also (I think my meager Paint program can do that).

The left side of the map is whatever side would be the more hostile side of the river, flanking the forest or whatever where the goblins mostly inhabit. The right side of the map contains the rebuilt town of Neues Tillich (or New Tillich if you prefer, or whatever). BTW, what's the river's name anyway? I forget....

The walls going over the river would be arches going over it, large enough for riverboats to pass under. The tops of the walls though wouldn't be arced. Iron gates or somesuch would slide sideways from both sides of each arch, barring the way when no ships are chartered to pass through, or when under attack, or whatever. Inside the fort, the river is flanked with a few docks for anchoring, loading, and unloading ships, from fishing skiffs to small warships, or whatever will fit in the river..... I have no idea how wide the river is, so base the scale of the walls and buildings on whatever width the river is supposed to be. Assume pillars support the bridge and walls/arches over the river, if need be. The bridge and main paths through the fort are intended to be at least wide enough to allow for one or more siege weapons to be moved around through the place, to where ever they're needed.

The gray parts of the map are stone walls, except for the gray at the bridge which is the stone ramps leading up to the bridge (which of course is set high enough above the bridge to allow for ships to pass under). The maroon, brown, and tan parts are wooden planks, roofs, walkways, and such. The main wall, and the walls of each military building, are crenellated to provide cover for archers and siege crews. The main wall is surrounded, on the inner rim, with a high, firmly-supported wooden walkway where archers and siege crews are stationed to watch over the surrounding territory and alert the fortress commanders to any impending attacks. The walkway is wide enough (10 feet, 20 feet?) for a ballista, catapult, onager, trebuchet, or other such war machine may be rolled along and positioned, with pegs and ropes for stabilizing them once in position of course, and also wide enough for the siege crews to work and for troops to run past the siege weapons/crews when needed. Of course, if that's too unrealistic, just assume the walkway is a more reasonable 5 or 10 feet wide, sufficient for archers to run around and position themselves.

The square parts along the main wall are the gatehouses, which house some barracks, maybe reception halls, and maybe mess halls for the garrison, in addition to the multiple portcullises. Many of the military buildings (the ones which I've put a wooden-board pattern on the roof) are towers or have a tower built into them, for viewing over the wall and laying down further bowfire and artillery fire upon any invaders. The other buildings, those with unmarked roofs, are the smaller buildings of the town, Neues Tillich. Remember, this is just what I think the place might look like when finished, it will be quite incomplete and barren when we start the one-shot adventures. Maybe one or two military buildings nearly complete, the main wall just begun, and probably a bunch of tents and makeshift huts for the workmen. Again, let me know what changes should be made, I am going to be pressed for time this next week or so and can't afford to be told at the last minute to redesign the entire fortress/town.

EDIT: Okay, I think I know now what the problem is. I think Geocities suspends access to my page whenever I insert an image from my webpage onto the forum, or something like that, so I've removed the picture. Just use the link I posted above to view the basic overhead map of Fortress Krieghelm/New Tillich.

Em, I'm not sure I follow you.

I had envisioned that there would be two parallel three session mini-series adventures culminating in a combination 7th session bringing the triangular conflict between Mittendein-Druid-Hobgoblin factions to a head. With this assumption, the first session involving the Hobgoblin's forces can proceed with little input or interaction from that of the Druid arm of the series.

I would like to leave some clues in the second Druid session that there are other goblins out there who are not necessarily friend of the Druid's goblins. An introduction of conflict between these two groups would liven up the plot.
Your envisioning is what I remembered, yes. Let me know how your adventure turns out and any clues you drop, and I'll go from there. Ideally the clues you drop will lead to the first of the hobgoblin adventures :)

Geocities says "[size=-1]We're sorry, but this page is currently unavailable for viewing." when I click the link you posted.

Em,

I would prefer that the sequence of adventures goes more like: Druid1 - Hobgoblin1 - Druid2 - Hobgoblin2 - Druid3 - Hobgoblin3 - Finale. If you wait to run Hobgoblin1 until Druid2 is completed then the Druid characters will be waiting for two Hobgoblin sessions to be completed before the Druid3 session. Can you run Hobgoblin1 without direct reference between the two?

Ideally, I would like the PC's to figure out that there is cross-action between the two arms after the 2nd adventure in each arm or later.

Changed the link, might work. Sent e-mail of picture to Emiricol, but my e-mail didn't go through when I tried sending to Entropy. So maybe check your e-mail inbox and see if it's too full or something. Bitmap attached to my e-mail was a little over 2100 k.
