Planning Session 2/23/04

I am moving the planning session. Better Games did some serious funk last night, ruining my game's timing. We are stuck 2/3 done because of it.

Tonight's DM meeting will be at 9PM CST.
Server: OpenRPG DevIII
Room: The 13 Kingdoms
Password: Brainstorm

See you all there

Basic descriptions for the Thane of New Tillich and Fortress Krieghelm:

Heinrik Feuermarke, Thane of Neues Tillich and Festung Krieghelm, is a young man of somewhat muscular but compact build, standing a few inches under 6 feet tall with a youthful but stern appearance to him. His hair is brown and close-cropped in a military fashion, with no facial hair and a strong chin. His brown eyes are cold but appraising, and he appears to be trying a little too hard at the role of commander. Heinrik usually wears a decoratively-designed plate cuirass with flared shoulder pauldrons, greaves, and vambraces, wearing simple aristocratic garments otherwise easily visible. A finely-crafted gauntlet covers his right hand, while a bronze ring emblazoned with the Feuermarke family crest adorns his left hand. Some simple nobleman's jewelry of gold and silver decorate his outfit, including a few small pins and such denote his position of Thane and a few minor military accomplishments. Several utilitarian pouches line his sturdy leather belt, as well as a scroll case that he frequently draws maps and blueprints forth from. A decorative, sturdy bow is sometimes slung across his back, along with two quivers filled with fine arrows. Heinrik carries an elaborate halberd as he patrols the area, shouting orders to workers, though it seems more like a show of power than any real intention of using the weapon.

Thane Heinrik Feuermarke is the master of Neues Tillich and Festung Krieghelm, that is New Tillich and Fortress Krieghelm. He is a young nobleman who has had a decade of experience training in the arts of war, and two decades learning court politics and the ways of the Mittendienish aristocracy, since the time he was a small boy. Heinrik has only a little real combat experience, having fought a handful of goblins, orcs, and human barbarians in small skirmishes over the years. He had a tendency to irritate his Baron, however, so after many years of putting up with the young man, the Baron assigned him to handle the construction and initial command of Fortress Krieghelm and New Tillich, which had recently been planned. Heinrik resents being sent off to an isolated and largely-unpopulated territory, and is eager to get the construction finished so he can try some forays into the wilderness. He wishes to destroy some goblins and maybe earn himself a chance for relocation to a nicer city and another chance to vie for position in the courts. Heinrik is a dutiful but ambitious aristocrat, aggressive and warlike, eager to improve his station and esteem. He is a stern leader, but has a forceful and commanding voice, undermined sometimes by his naievete and inexperience, occasionally giving orders that are contradictory or just don't make sense. Still, he strives to learn the ways of leadership and politics, though often too aggressively.

I have stats for the Thane, if anyone wants me to post them here, or I can just give you the OpenRPG node with his stats and description sometime in one of the servers. I'm still working on other NPCs, and will post their descriptions as I finish them.

Have you installed the latest versions of Python and wxPython before reinstalling OpenRPG? 1.6.whatever requires updating to a new version of one of those IIRC.... Eh, I dunno. Only thing I can think of. Try moving all of your old OpenRPG gamefiles (logs, npcs, and such) in a different folder, then uninstall all previous versions of OpenRPG, Python, and wxPython. Then install the newer versions..... Again, all I can think of. I did that when switching to 1.5.1 just to make sure.

BTW, Entropy, did you recruit any players for more than one group? Or are we gonna run the druid-oriented group again before getting started on another? I don't know if I should be trying to recruit more players for it yet... Should I? What should I likely request for PCs then if so, i.e. alignment or race restrictions, etc.?

Ark, I have a list of e-mails of players who are interested in adventures. Most of the players I have in the Druid adventure are from that. There should be a couple more still interested. It does not hurt to look for more though.

As for restrictions, the only restriction that I put on my adventure was that the PC's need to be non-evil due to this being a "heroic" adventure.

Are you going to run the first Hobgoblin adventure then? If so, when? I would like this to be run before the next Druid adventure is run. I will finalize the adventure tomorrow night.

I need to hear from the rest of you about two timely issues:

1. Who is running Hobgoblin1 adventure? This adventure should be run next and needs to get announced VERY soon to keep the series running in a timely fashion.

2. Who can run Druid2 adventure? I cannot and remain married. (Just joking, but it will cost me a CONSIDERABLE amount of marital karma to do so.) This adventure should be run in 2 weeks or so from now.

This is the time for we CM/DM's to step up and run adventures. We have interested people checking out our site. If no adventures are run for new players then we will become an "interesting experiment" in online gaming. Getting the site off on the right foot requires a commitment from all of us. I hope that we will look back at the upcoming months at the end of the year and relish this as the beginning of a vibrant gaming community. Let's pull together and host some fun, interesting and exciting games to get this started.

I'm too busy with my own stuff, and trying to come up with NPC stats and descriptions for Tillich and the Fortress, so I can't run any adventures this week as far as I know. I don't know if I'll have the time next week or the week after that, so it remains to be seen. If I do find myself with some free time, I will see if I can work on running an adventure in this series, but I really don't have the time this week as far as I know.
