D&D 5E Player Races in Upcoming Volo's Guide to Monsters

Besides Dragonborn though (and I don't know how they managed to sell people on the crappiest interpretation of dragonpeople to ever be thrown together), I don't think it worked.
Well, 4E's Dragonborn stuck around because they were better than 3.5E's version of Dragonborn

Because 3.5E's Dragonborn were kind of weird.

Honestly I think the only really original races 4E came up with were Shardminds and possibly the Deva and Vryloka, but Deva and Vryloka are both from mythology. Everything else was legacy

Wilden? Don't remember ever seeing them anywhere before 4e.

Also, 4e Dragonborn stuck because they are an excellent form of dragonic humanoid. Especially with the variety of form form available after some of the variant stuff came out, especially the draconian variant options. I think some folk dislike them because they were sort of the face of 4e, in a lot of ways, and folks have an irrationally extreme dislike of 4e. :D

I think I heard somewhere that Wilden are basically a race from 3e's Races of the Wild called Killoren with a changed name.

Shadar Kai in 4e were effectly a new race, they had absolutely nothing to do with the previous Fey based Shadar Kai.

Never heard of the woodlings. I really hope we get a table of contents this Wensday.

I'd like to see the table of contents as well, but if they do release it, I imagine they will hold that off until the last preview. We'll probably see such things as a monster stat block and a playable race, and probably some lore bits in the meantime...
