Players: Do You Buy Your Own Miniatures?

Just thoriwng it out there.

As a player, do you feel repsonsible for bringing your own miniature or do you rely on the DM to provide one? Or use a stand up or some other representation. (I understand candy is often used for this but beware! The GM may decide the quickest way to claim said candy is kill the character!)

I have never been in a D&D game that has used miniatures. I have always used markings on a blackboard or a piece of paper to represent positioning in battle.

In the few (non-D&D) games that I have played in, miniatures and the like were always provided by someone. Actually, I am not really sure who exactly brought those miniatures, but I know there was never any expectation that I should bring my own.

Most of my players, and me when I'm playing, prefer to get and paint their own minis. But then, most of us are minis gamers as well.

Even though some of my players own miniatures, they never bother to bring them to the games. Honestly, although they appreciate the minis, I think it would be fine if we played with counters, coins, or M&Ms.
