Actually, this fits the prediction I made in one of the (many) DMG II threads. Right around the time WotC sent out a press release discussing DMG II sales I said that we should see a PHB II next summer.

It's all about the cash.

Yeah - I mean who expects a company in business to make a profit to care about making cash? Truly strange.

So how are your sales going?

Oh, I'm not complaining--although I realize it may have sounded like that. I was in a bit of a rush to get the scoop, so I went for short, sweet, and easily misinterpreted. :) I just meant that with the DMG II, MM II, and MM III, this was the next logical step. (I think a Player's Handbook II was actually planned in 1st Edition, judging from old DRAGONs I've glanced at--it may have become Unearthed Arcana, it may have never seen the light of day. Anyone know more?)

I'm glad to see the concept for the sake of symmetry. I reserve judgement on the rest until the book's out.

I don't think Phil was being critical or sarcastic there.
I think he was just making a true statement of fact.

It's not just a valid point, but ultimately its THE valid point. And a good thing it is.

Wohoo!

I am hoping for some more new classes and them not including classes they have already printed.

Dood, you know its going to have the Base classes from the Complete series... and a bunch of other grandfathered stuff... bleh. They're going to have a tough time selling me this new book.

Although I'd be down with some fresh material on Warlocks...

I didn't mean anything negative at all. I think a PHB II is a smart move and -- if I was in their position -- it's exactly what I'd do. I'm just saying that if you think of dollars first and the game second it shouldn't be too difficult to identify possible products and moves that a company will make.

It's the same as with all of the 4e threads.

Exactly. Thanks for understanding my point (and pointing it out).

Agree. I suspect it will be a good book -- it's a high profile product that the company is likely to sink more resources into than they would an average splat. This book should, if I know the market, be #2 in sales to the PHB. I expect more people will own PHB IIs than own the DMG.

Ah, I understand now. Statements like "it's all about the cash" have a natural negative tone to me - sorry for my mistake.

I do agree that this will be a major release and will likely see the level of success that DMG II has. I'm more interested in this than the DMG II as it will mostly likely have more spells/domains and equipment.

Uh...this isn't negative how? Are you saying, yet again, that WotC will do anything to chase cash the game be damned? Or that this is destined to be bad for the game but good for cashflow? Again. You don't seem to have made the statement less negative.
