We get threads dealing with characters with not great stats like maybe a

14, 13, 11, 10, 9, 8

And the DM is not allowing you to alter these or come up with new numbers.

If you had such stats and everyone in the group had about the same but you are on the low end would you play him? Would you do so reluctantly? Or would you kill him off?

Yea, I'd play that.

Of course I'm used to being the worst and most effective powergamer in my face to face groups, so this would simply put me at an even power level :D.

But seriously, even a character with craptacular stats can be made at least decent and even if not, I can live with playing a weak character for a short time and if it is only to play out how he comes to realise that the adventuring life isn't for him.

Yes, I would play it. It's not a challange, nor would I do it reluctantly. Actually, I don't really see anything wrong with the numbers. I've played better and I have played worse. What is the big deal?

The character method we use tends to create characters with 8's or lower somewhere. It's not an issue really, Mages get low STR, CHA, or WIs, Fighters get low WIS, CHA, or INT and so on. I've not played a fighter with an 8 STR though, maybe I should give that a try next time around, I think I will.

Hey, man, I like 25-point buy. That's pretty darn close to those stats -- whose says it's "not great stats"?

It's 17 point buy. Those extra 8 points you're getting make a bit of a difference!! :D

Sure. There's no fitting answer in the poll, though. ;)

It really depends on the type of campaign. In a primarlily RP heavy game, it wouldn't really bother me, but I'd never take that guy into one of Dungeon's adventure paths, for example. Odds are he wouldn't survive the first encounter.
