Playing a Wilder?

Nyaricus

First Post
So, I am going to be (finally!!) playing in a campaign on a bi-weekly basis, along with DMing my own campaign on the alternate weeks. My original character concept was ruined (elven scout/ranger) when my dex score came up as a 9 :\ (organic method FYI) However, this gave me the oppertunity (or more like the prod :p) to play a psionics character - infact the only one brave enough to try it out in my group! We are using the races and classes found on athas.org are are starting at level 4, and what I am basically asking is:

How do I play a wilder??

I've heard a few good things about them, but they kinda confuse me as well - how can I optimize this character and get used to psionics, a system I've never used on either side of the screen.

Here are my scores:

Str 14
Dex 9
Con 14
Int 14
Wis 15
Cha 16 (incl. +1 for being 4th level)

I have the XPH, PHB I and II, the Complete Sereis sans the psionics one (don't it figure :p) plus a few more misc books. Any help on race/power/feat selection would be most appreciated. I am basically open to anything :)

thanks (and cheers!),

One option: when level 6, take the feat that lets you get Create Astral Construct. Then in combat pump yourself up and summon the nastiest astral construct possible and let it fight your battles for you. Until level 6 you will have to pump up something else, though.

If your DM is extra nice and lets you delay taking your level 3 feat until level 4, I suppose you can get the Expanded Knowledge feat (I think that is what it is called) right away and go straight for this trick.

Note: if you go for this trick it would be useful to know if your DM uses the Complete Psionic rules on limits on how many astral constructs you can summon at a time.

Actually, I am going to play a psion instead and will end this thread now.
