Why "dwarves and eladrin excepted"? Both of those should be over 48".

I believe it's confirmed that we'll have 8 races, but I can't remember where that's from. With 8 races, it would be:

Human, Elf, Dwarf, Eladrin, Tiefling, Halfling(?), +2

In that case, I'm betting Half-elf and Half-orc.

They've made references to the half-elf being in the PHB. While it's not a lock, it certainly seems likely.

I can't recall them ever saying the half-orc would be, though. Here's hoping it goes to MM1 and the gnome gets the final spot.

Most of the time they will be. In 3E, Dwarves can be as short as 45". Courre Eladrin are shorter than 48" IIRC.

They need a halfling warlock and warlord. So they can test out any size rules, and hammer out those two classes; we've heard jack about them.

We pretty much have seven confirmed classes: Fighter, Rogue, Cleric, Wizard, Ranger, Warlord, and Paladin. And we know there will be at least 8 classes in the PHB, so there's at least one more.

Warlock was officially, and directly, confirmed as being in the PHB a couple days ago.
