Playtest: Martial Power 2

Different subsystems for the same concept this early? Yikes. Stick with the multiclass weapon feats please. And name all these feats that alter at-wills something so when I open the CB 3/4 of the heroic tier are not of that kind.

Yecch, I'm getting flashbacks from 2E now, and its splat books.

How many new layers of optional sub-systems are we going to throw into the pot now?

And so soon...

Unfortunately my first impression is that these feats are a giant waste of space. Arena fighting style feats were interesting, and some of them were even useful. Nothing jumps out at me as cool from this bunch.

If you're looking for a bonus to a skill and happen to have one of the at-will's these feats impact, and happen to be using the required weapon, I guess there might be a corner case for picking up one of these feats. But otherwise, it just seems like a bunch of overly specific junk.

There are several of these that give you a bonus to damage roll with Furious Smash, and one for Opening Shove. Good luck making use of those feats...

I guess warlords get a new at-will called Inspiring Strike, the name sounds promising.

Rangers get an at-will called Positioning Strike? That's not going to be confusing...

I'm rather disappointed with this playtest article, but I guess it gives me a lot to write to them as feedback.

This. I owned most, if not all, of the Complete <Class> books in 2E, and liked most of them, but there were clear "zomg this is good" and "lawl teh sux" kits in every single one of them. I really, really hope we don't go back to that.

My humble opinion is they are not worthy the complication they bring. Seems to me WotC has finally come to perceive the "technique feats" pile themselves to make maximized at-wills. Would be much more simple to simply create a update where says: "You can only benefit yourself from one technique feat at time". As more of those feats come around, I pretend to make this a houserule in my table myself.

If They Forget the "combat style" thing and make then in normal technique feats, they will be at least decent.

One more thing: I was hoping this playtest would be a collection of martial classes feats for the PHB2 races. That´s only highten my frustation... :(

I liked several of the 2e splats and, honestly, I preferred the format of the 2e Complete books (and , similarly, Mongoose's Quintessential and Green Ronin's Master Class series) to both the 3e splat book format and the current splat format. My only problem with the 2e Complete books was the patchwork nature of 2e system and lack of feats led to some horrible mechanics for many kits.

Plus, I think anyone that didn't expect a diluge of splats was deluding themselves.

How many new layers of optional sub-systems are we going to throw into the pot now?

For myself, as many as it takes to allow DMs and groups to customize the mechanics to fit their preferences. Who knows? Perhaps if, eventually, provide options to fix my dislikes, I might make the switch to 4e.
