Playtest report: Hanging on a fence

I just came across an article that jibes with what I thought was going on here:

Too many choices -- good or bad -- can be mentally exhausting

Interesting article. I should think it applies to 4E. The designers tried very hard to intensify the fun factor, and the energy to sustain a high level of fun must come from somewhere. It was rather taxing. If this leads to shorter sessions I'm all for it. 6 hours is way too long anyway.

Or not. (shrug) There is always Pathfinder, or True20, or 3.5 or any of the previous versions of this wonderful game that span the last 20+ years. The only people who have to come to terms with the changes and learn the game anew, are the ones who want to play 4E.
Hmm, I don't think that covers all possibilities. There are also people that just want to try something different or new. Relearning systems can be fun, especially if you're no longer that content with the system you have learned.

Personally, I am not really thrilled in running a 3E game, though I am still very happy to play a character (at least as long as our Age of Worms fiasco doesn't repeat itself).
I run Iron Heroes at the moment, and I am also considering trying out Starwars Saga (I've got the rules, I just have to start a campaign), or maybe even something with d20 Modern or Monte Cooks World of Darkness. But I can't jump around all the time - my players deserve some more consistency. So I suppose it's Iron Heroes, until 4E arrives.
