Plea to traditionalist fans: No more “half” races?

The traditionalists are saying "Don't take away the half-elf and half-orc! They've always been here with the other demi-humans!" while the new wave says "Don't take away the dragonborn and the tiefling! They're helping to bring more life into the game!"

It looks like we all want options besides the elf, dwarf, and halfling for racial choices, but we just can't agree on the flavour. What's worse is that we've brought in wierd biological arguments into a game of make-believe.

"We all"? Speak for yourself. I don't want to see the half-orc, half-elf, dragonborn nor tiefling in the PHB.

No disrespect to the big 3, I don't have a problem with them. Elves other classics are fine, but what do you want, if you want more options? Subraces?

If you don't want more racial options, why not? People have been looking for more PC options since the little brown books came out, whether it be for a swords and sorcery or more fantastic campaign, they're always looking for more.

Maybe you don't want it in the PHB. Would you prefer half-elfs (for example) to be campaign specific, or in the DMG/MM for some reason? What about gnomes?

Tell me more about what you want, my current understanding is that the people who only want humans, elves, dwarfs, and halflings are a very small section of the DnD base
