I'll second the very useful in the right situation analysis of the feat. If you're a melee fighter facing a large creature with improved grab, this feat is a lifesaver (in fact, it's probably the only thing other than flight magic items and a bow that can give a fighter of less than 10th level a possibility of defeating a dire bear one on one).
