Power Lunge [General]
REQ: Base Attack bonus +3, Power Attack
A successful attack roll during a charge allows you to inflict double your normal Strength modifier in addition to the attack's normal damage, regardless of whether you're using one-or two-handed weapons. You provoke an attack of opportunity from the opponent you charged. Sword and Fist, pg 8.

I think its a preety good feat, especially when using a 1 handed weapon. I had some friends use it with power crit for devastating results.

Its power also depends a lot on how you handle AOO. If your enemy is just using his AOO to slug you that's one thing, but if he's using it to put you on the ground, knock the sword out of your hand, or pull you into a grapple, then it doesn't seem as good.

ALL my lancer friends have this feat, without a doubt.

who doesnt like insane strength multiplying with ridiculous lance crits =)))

I voted "1". In most cases, I've found that the damage you take from the AoO is greater than the extra damage dealt, making the feat sub-optimal at best.

Above average.

This feat can be highly advantageous in limited (but easily creatable) circumstances. It also scales well with level because fighters' strengths tend to increase as their levels increase. Characters also tend to get damage multipliers on charges if they're built to use charge attacks.

Its prime drawback (the AoO) can be mitigated by using a reach weapon or having a high AC as well.

Its net effect for a 6th level fighter/barbarian with spirited charge and a 16 starting strength (before rage)= +15 damage on a spirited charge with a lance. (Strength 20 with x3 damage normally =15, doubled, it is 30 points of damage. . .)

With Rhino hide armor, it can be useful for a similar non-mounted character with a glaive (+6 damage on a charge, no AoO due to reach).

It can also be useful for a character built around shield charges. (+10 damage normally, +15 with Rhino Hide armor).

Given its very high utility in a range of easily creatable situations (since you can usually charge at least once per encounter and can usually choose your weapon), it has to rate fairly highly. . . .

Interesting, I hadn't thought about the reach thing. So, this feat is only good if you have 14+ strength and reach. And then its nullified if your opponent has reach.

I think it would have been a much better feat if it had Spring Attack as a Prereq and did away with the AoO. With those changes we would have a decent feat for a mid to high level fighter.

You get to do a spirited charge once every other session if you are lucky. A feat that adds to every single roll has more utility. Depending on the various non-official interpretations of the feat it can get better. You better hope you get initiative or your chances of using this feat are almost nil for that encounter.

I think shield charge and weapon specialization are better.
