I do like this feat, but I think it is also an example of the numbers of the rules getting in the way of the spirit of the rules. Here's why:

This feat requires a high dex (15+) to use, because dexterity is the stat that is tied to throwing. I think this is, frankly, crap. The ability to throw a greatsword does not come about because a person is agile, it come from the person being really strong. This feat should, from a logic standpoint, have a requirement of strength to be able to throw heavier items. I do realize that it's done for simplicity, but think that it is an example of oversimplification.

The interesting thing with this feat is, that it gives you a nice alternate option -
Imagine a heavy and deadly fight scene - the enemy wants to retire, and uses an Entangle like Spell or Ability, and the Fighter is unable to get out - he now can at least try to throw his Greatsword or whatever weapon he was using to try to stay in combat.

Throwing Weapons has one great advantage for most Fighters - they can apply their full strength bonus, and are not limited to the usual maximum of +4 for Longbows (which they will exceed very quick).

As an aside, I just noticed a Str 20 composite longbow in Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil.

Is there actually a statement anywhere that mighty bows of standard size (ie not a Storm Giant's gargantuan bow, etc) are capped at +4?

After all, if Monte can do it...? :)

I don't see anything in the SRD that prohibits it, but it only gives prices up to +4.
